Location: Winston Salem, NC

Open Date: Jul 30, 2025

Description:

Job Description: The Department of Communication welcomes applications for a non-tenure track faculty position as an Assistant Teaching Professor, with expertise or specialization in film and video production. Skillful teaching is the key responsibility, with a course load of six (6) courses over two (2) semesters that includes courses at both introductory and advanced undergraduate levels. The position begins July 1, 2026.

At Wake Forest, teaching professors hold a renewable position, contingent on successful annual reviews, with an initial appointment of two years. Teaching Professors are fully integrated members of the Wake Forest faculty, with 9-month full-time appointments and eligibility for promotion through the ranks of Assistant, Associate, and Full. Like all faculty, they are expected to support the Wake Forest University mission through service to the department, the College of Liberal Arts, and the University.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Teach six courses per academic year (9-month basis), which may include:
    • Beginning and advanced media production
    • Screenwriting
    • Introduction to Critical and Creative Media
    • Courses in the candidate’s area of specialization
  • Contribute to equipment management and departmental service
  • Engage with students as both a mentor and a collaborator in creative practice

Position Qualifications:

  • Required:
    • Either a terminal degree (MFA or PhD) or a significant record of professional experience–10+ years.
  • Preferred:
    • College-level teaching experience or lower-level if focused in production.
    • Broad skills and experience across pre-production, production, and post-production

Additional Information: Critical and Creative Media is a major within the Department of Communication. Students engage deeply with both media analysis and media-making, and we seek a colleague who will inspire them to think critically while producing work that is bold and personal. The production curriculum emphasizes vision, perseverance, and technical fundamentals through courses that teach students about all stages of the production process.
