Description:

WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY. The Department of Health and Exercise Science invites applications for a faculty position as Assistant Teaching Professor or Professor of the Practice of Wellness, effective July 1, 2026.

Qualifications: A minimum of a Master’s Degree in health education, exercise science, kinesiology, exercise physiology, public health, or a closely related field is required. Qualified applicants will demonstrate their ability to teach courses, mentor undergraduate students, and contribute to an academic environment that fosters learning and growth for all its stakeholders.

Position Summary: The Department of Health and Exercise Science at Wake Forest University invites applicants for a full-time non-tenure Assistant Teaching Professor/Professor of Practice position to begin July 1, 2026, with focus areas related to wellness, exercise science, nutrition, and/or health promotion. We seek an individual with a commitment to excellence in teaching and a desire to mentor students. The successful candidate will: (1) teach the Health and Exercise Science undergraduate graduation requirement course (HES 100); (2) serve the department through academic advising and mentoring of undergraduate students; and (3) participate in departmental, college, and university service. Skillful teaching is a key responsibility, with a course load equivalent to six 3 credit courses each year. Depending on the candidate’s expertise, other teaching opportunities may be available at the undergraduate level. Teaching Professor/Professor of Practice faculty at Wake Forest are eligible for all the same professional rights and resources afforded tenure track faculty, such as professional development support, departmental and college travel funds, and course release. This position is eligible for renewal and promotion with progressively longer-term contracts.

Additional Information: The interdisciplinary mission of the Department of Health and Exercise Science at Wake Forest University is to advance the understanding of health and the prevention/treatment of chronic disease and physical disability. We are located on the WFU Reynolda Campus and host approximately 250 undergraduate majors and 16 master’s level graduate students. The department has 9 tenure-track faculty and 7 teaching professionals. The department offers both B.S. and M.S. Degrees in Health and Exercise Science.
