POSITION DETAILS
Brooklyn College, a vibrant senior college of the City University of New York, invites applications for the position of Assistant Vice President for Facilities. Reporting to the Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration (SVPFA), with latitude for independent judgment and decision making, the Assistant Vice President for Facilities is responsible for overseeing activities related to the physical plant. The incumbent must work closely with the SVPFA’s Cabinet, key leadership, management across the College, CUNY, and DASNY to provide information and services.
The Assistant Vice President for Facilities responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Direct daily operations of Facilities Planning and Project Management/Architectural functions.
- Direct daily operations of Buildings and Grounds. This includes custodial services and laborers.
- Serve as liaison to CUNY’s Facilities Shared Services. Shared Services oversees the skilled trades including those who provide preventative and corrective maintenance for the Heating Plant, the Chiller Plant, Engineering, and related functions, in addition to the electricians, plumbers, carpenters, painters, and cement mason.
- Direct daily operations of the Facilities Administrative team that supports related operations.
- Implement and maintain a tracking system related to compliance issues such as filings and violations.
- Act as campus liaison for all capital projects managed through University’s Office of Facilities Planning, Construction, and Management (FPCM) and the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY). Work with key campus stakeholders involved in each project.
- Drive collaborative campus effort to implement a successful space management strategy.
- Develop summarized reports to provide regular updates to the SVPFA and to the campus community.
- Oversee the design for in-house campus facilities projects and develop specifications for procurement, as required.
- Support the Director of Environmental Health and Safety/Sustainability, as appropriate.
- Collaborate with the Director of Campus Safety on a comprehensive fire protection plan.
- Develop standard operating procedures for facilities project management and buildings and grounds that include the development and monitoring of key performance indicators.
- Create and implement an outcomes assessment plan for areas under the AVP’s jurisdiction.
- Review budget, staffing and OTPS, for areas under the AVP’s jurisdiction and make appropriate recommendations that are consistent with available budget.
- Implement customer service and communications plan for employees under the AVP’s portfolio.
- Attend University meetings and communicate relevant information. Perform all other tasks assigned by the Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in architecture, engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Five to ten years’ experience at a facilities managerial level.
- Experience and knowledge in facilities planning, design and construction, MEP, and buildings and grounds.
- Demonstrated evidence of ability in the management of a multi-facility complex and the delivery of responsive customer service.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, including the ability to prioritize.
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to synthesize information for different audiences with diplomacy and tact.
- Experience in team building and staff development.
- The ability to establish effective and productive working relationships with diverse campus constituents, CUNY, DASNY, and other agencies.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
$160,000 - $180,000; Salary commensurate with education and experience.
