Assistant Vice Provost-OAA Leadership Development

The Office of Faculty Affairs leads a series of leadership development programming, such as the President and Provosts Leadership Institute (PPLI) and the New Chair Program. As a member of the Faculty Affairs team within OAA, the Assistant Vice Provost (AVP) will design, develop, coordinate and implement university-wide faculty leadership development programming for the PPLI and New Chair Program as well as future programs. This position will support the alignment and delivery of the various leadership programs offered as well as assist in assessment of program effectiveness focused on designing/redesigning curriculum according to evidence-based principles.

The Assistant Vice Provost will report to the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs and work collaboratively with the entire Faculty Affairs team. Together, the Assistant Vice Provost and Vice Provost will coordinate leadership programming in alignment with the Academic Excellence plan across the university with the Senior Vice Provost for Leadership and Engagement. This position will have the opportunity to partner with the Office of Human Resources Organizational Leadership Effectiveness team and the Leadership Lab associated with the Office of Advancement.

Collaboration with internal and external stakeholders will be a critical component of this role as it relates to building programs, evaluating existing programs and recommending changes to ensure alignment with the OAA Academic Excellence Plan. This position will be responsible for the development and implementation of an overall strategy for engagement of faculty across the university and will be responsible for creating a process to recruit engaged pools of participants. In addition, this role will serve as the lead as it relates to communications, partnering with OAA Marketing and Communications to develop promotional materials, and oversee operations for all programs within the scope of the role. The Assistant Vice Provost will provide leadership to presenters, participants and other partners, including providing logistical support for programs, facilitating and executing program orientations and training sessions for presenters.

In collaboration with Institutional Research and Planning (IRP), this role will oversee the development of metrics to measure success as well as design and implement improvements to advance leadership programs as needed. As part of this important work, the Assistant Vice Provost will gather and analyze data, and generate reports on systematic changes and recommendations for university leadership consideration. This position provides data-driven/informed perspectives to lead the work to develop and lead strategic planning focused on leadership development.

The Assistant Vice Provost may represent OAA on committees as deemed appropriate.

Education

Minimum Education Required: Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Degree Desired: Masters degree

Required Skills: 6 years of relevant experience.

  • In-depth knowledge of and experience working in higher education; excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • excellent organizational skills and ability to work independently
  • effectively managing deadlines
  • excellent customer service, collaboration and relationship management. Proven expertise in curriculum design.

Desired: 8-12 years of relevant experience preferred

Desired skills:

  • Handle all interactions with civility, respect, and professionalism to promote and create a welcoming atmosphere for all, as well as maintains confidentiality in all matters of business responsibility.
  • Curriculum design around adult learning theory.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based leadership development theory and practice.
  • Experience in program assessment.
