Associate Director for Outreach
The Associate Director for Outreach with the Center for Career Excellence (CCE) reports to the Director. The Associate Director collaborates with the Director, CCE colleagues, and the Laurentian Engagement and Advancement teams to recruit alumni volunteers from across the country to engage with students in career preparation and networking activities both on- and off-campus. The Associate Director helps execute large and small-scale career programs featuring Laurentians and develops innovative outreach and marketing to promote these programs to students. The Associate Director aids students in strengthening their networking skills and building connections. Salary Range $64,000-$66,000 annually.
Volunteer Management
- Collaborate with CCE colleagues and the Laurentian Engagement and Advancement teams to identify alumni and expand volunteer base for engagement in on- and off-campus career programming.
- Assist in recruiting alumni and parents as volunteer mentors for LINC Mentoring Program and micro-mentoring opportunities.
- Work with Athletic coaches/staff to identify alumni athletes for student-athlete focused career programming.
- Strategize with colleagues on selecting alumni volunteers for additional small-scale career programs.
Program Management
- Plan, coordinate, and support all aspects associated with four to five SLU Connect trek programs including the 150-200 alumni/parent volunteers; build on-site plans for and travel to SLU Connect programs; develop 1-2 virtual programs in collaboration with campus colleagues, handle coordination, host virtual programs.
- Identify future SLU Connect trek locations and virtual program focus areas in conjunction with CCE colleagues and Laurentian Engagement and Advancement teams.
- Serve as member of LINC Program Management Team; manage volunteer mentor communications, recruitment, and training.
- Build career programming for student-athletes featuring Saints athletic alumni showcasing careers inside and outside the sports industry.
- Create programming for students on how to maximize engagement with the Laurentian network.
- Organize and support current and new career programming initiatives featuring Laurentians.
- Team with Director to strategize effective methods of expanding volunteer base for CCE engagement.
- Collaborate with the Center for the Environment on programming initiatives and alumni volunteer recruitment.
Coaching
- Meet with students to develop and hone networking skills and professional outreach communications, coach students on various career preparation topics.
- Help connect students with alumni for networking, micro-mentoring, and shadowing opportunities.
Internal & External Relations
- Recruit alumni as program volunteers to assist students in career exploration, networking, and preparation.
- Consult with campus colleagues also engaging alumni in programming and engagement opportunities.
- Refer alumni employers to CCE employer engagement colleagues for relationship development and job/internship recruitment opportunities.
- As a member of CCE’s Marketing Team, assist with developing innovative outreach and marketing strategies to promote key Laurentian programs and events.
- Oversee end-of-year student survey to gather data on job, graduate school, internship, and summer job outcomes from current students.
- Actively participate in Center’s evaluation, assessment, and reporting practices.
- Assist with University events as needed. Such events may include Laurentian Weekend, Reunion Weekend, Alumni Executive Council Weekends, Board of Trustee Weekends, Admissions Visit Days, Orientation.
- Attend Laurentian Events as requested.
Other duties as assigned or requested to meet departmental goals and objectives.
Professional Development
- Actively seek out resources and information to stay up to date on industry best practices, changes in alumni career programming and engagement, networking, career development, and specific job responsibilities.
- Participate in professional development opportunities with our member associations; make use of online resources.
- Attend yearly professional development conference as office budget allows.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required with 3-5 years of work experience in a higher education setting; preferably some experience interacting with and engaging alumni. Master’s degree in a relevant field is preferred.
- Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining relationships with a wide range of external and internal constituents including alumni, parents, students, faculty, staff, and employers.
- A commitment to diversity and inclusion and experience interacting with individuals from diverse populations.
- Skills necessary to assess, organize, and prioritize multiple tasks with keen attention to detail.
- Aptitude for making decisions using independent discretion and judgment; ability to problem-solve.
- Ability to be innovative with programming to meet the changing needs of students and alumni and meet the goals of CCE, the division of Student Life, and the University.
- Knowledge of networking and informational interviewing skills, career exploration and preparation practices, internship/job search strategies.
- Ability to maintain the highest level of professionalism and provide exceptional customer service.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills necessary for communicating with a variety of constituencies.
- Strong time management, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of best practices in collegiate career development and workplace trends.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams; Zoom.
- Ability to travel to staff programs and meet with alumni, and work non-standards hours, including some nights and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of Qualtrics and Canva preferred.
- Knowledge of and ability to navigate platforms such as LinkedIn and Handshake preferred.
- Exposure to using relational databases; experience with The Raiser’s Edge a plus.
