Associate General Counsel
Overview
The Office of University Counsel (OUC) manages the legal affairs of Tufts University, advising schools and divisions on issues including employee relations, immigration, student affairs, real estate, contracts, intellectual property, litigation, policy development, and compliance.
What You'll Do
The Associate General Counsel will report to the Deputy General Counsel for Labor, Employment and Dispute Resolution, supporting legal needs with an emphasis on employment, labor, student matters, and disputes.
- Provide legal guidance to university clients and stay abreast of issues affecting higher education.
- Collaborate with OUC colleagues and build trust with university leadership.
- Communicate legal advice clearly.
- Manage litigation, arbitration, mediation, and disputes in employment and student matters.
- Perform legal research, write memoranda, draft and review contracts, policies, and bylaws.
- Deliver training sessions and contribute to office knowledge management.
What We're Looking For
Basic Requirements: Juris Doctor from an accredited law school, 10+ years of experience, licensed or eligible for Massachusetts Bar, experience in labor, employment, and litigation, strong analytical and communication skills, computer proficiency.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in higher education law and counseling clients.
Special Work Schedule: Hybrid environment, generally 3 days in the office.
Pay Range: Minimum $206,400.00, Midpoint $258,000.00, Maximum $309,600.00, based on experience.
