Legal Writer
Position Summary
CEB is looking for a skilled Legal Staff Writer to join our Current Awareness team. You'll cover major court decisions, legal trends, and news about California's legal community. The role involves creating high-quality content for a sophisticated legal audience, including daily alerts, blog posts, and in-depth articles.
Ideal candidates are strong legal writers who can make complex topics clear and engaging, have a deep understanding of the legal industry, and enjoy developing sources.
Salary & Compensation
UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common. Qualifications
- Superb research and writing skills (Required)
- Ability to maintain an ethical, honest, and objective standard in writing and reporting (Required)
- Disciplined, with strong time management skills (Required)
- Ability to write clearly, engagingly, and authoritatively on a deadline (Required)
- Ability to establish and nurture relationships with lawyers, judges, and lawmakers (Required)
- Ability to comprehend and analyze legal documents and content (Required)
- Flexible, creative, adaptable, and self-driven (Required)
- Ability to juggle a stream of daily stories, while simultaneously writing and developing more in-depth and complex stories with sophisticated analysis (Required)
- Excellent copyediting skills (Required)
- Superb interpersonal communication skills; a team player and strong collaborator (Required)
- Strong understanding of the California legal industry (Required)
- 2-3 years' news experience, with legal and/or business journalism experience (Preferred)
- Minimum 2-3 years' experience with the California legal industry (Preferred)
Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations
Bachelor's Degree in journalism, communication, English, or other related field or equivalent combination of education, experience / training (Required)
