Associate Professor WOT or Professor WOT (Chief of Neuroanesthesia) – Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine

The University of Washington School of Medicine invites nominations and applications for the Neuroanesthesiology & Perioperative Neurosciences Division Chief in the University of Washington Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine (UW APM). This is an Associate- or Full-Professor-level clinical position with protected time for administrative duties and academic endeavors. This position will have a reporting line to the UW APM Chair and will work closely with all UW APM vice chairs, division chiefs. This effort includes all clinical, education, research, and administrative operations within the division.

This position provides an outstanding opportunity to lead an internationally recognized division, drive clinical excellence, advance research initiatives, and foster educational growth. The Division Chief will oversee all aspects of neuroanesthesiology, working collaboratively with departmental and institutional leadership to ensure the highest quality of perioperative care, research, and training.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Division of Neuroanesthesiology & Perioperative Neurosciences.
  2. Provide and oversee the provision of neuroanesthesia and general anesthesia care at Harborview Medical Center and UW Medical Center – Montlake.
  3. Maintain and enhance the division’s reputation for clinical excellence, innovation, and patient-centered care.
  4. Lead faculty recruitment, mentorship, and professional development efforts within the division.
  5. Foster collaborative relationships with neurology, neurosurgery, neurointensivist, and other critical care medicine colleagues to advance multidisciplinary patient care, research, and quality improvement (QI) initiatives.
  6. Support and enhance the division’s contributions to education and training, including the International Council for Perioperative Neurosciences Training (ICPNT)-accredited Neuroanesthesiology Fellowship program and the neuroanesthesiology residency rotation.
  7. Promote faculty engagement in clinical and translational research and facilitate external funding opportunities.
  8. Collaborate with perioperative leadership to optimize workflow, efficiency, and resource utilization in the operating rooms and non-operating room anesthesia (NORA) locations for neurointerventional procedures.
  9. Engage in national and international leadership activities, representing the University of Washington in professional societies, conferences, and research initiatives.

About the UW Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine The University of Washington is an internationally recognized leader in medical education, clinical care, and research. Likewise, the UW Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine, founded in 1960 by Dr. John Bonica, is ranked among the leading academic departments in the country. With 245 clinical and research faculty members, 90 staff members, and 115 affiliated clinical faculty, we are one of the largest departments in the UW School of Medicine. Our education program oversees 112 residents (the School of Medicine’s second largest residency program) and 38 postdoctoral scholars and ACGME fellows.

Qualifications

  • MD, DO, or foreign equivalent medical degree.
  • Board certification (or eligibility or foreign equivalent) in Anesthesiology.
  • One year of fellowship training in neuroanesthesiology or neurocritical care (including board certification, or equivalent, in neurocritical care if trained in neurocritical care).
  • Eligibility for licensure in the State of Washington.
