Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia invites applications from qualified candidates for the position of Associate Vice President for Student Success, Well-Being, & Belonging and Chief Title IX Officer.
About the Role
The Associate Vice President for Student Success, Well-Being, & Belonging and Chief Title IX Officer (AVP) provides strategic leadership to advance educational equity and foster an inclusive campus environment that supports student achievement, holistic well-being, and belonging. The AVP collaborates closely with students, faculty, and staff to strengthen programs, services, and institutional practices, proactively identifying and addressing barriers to student engagement and success.
As the Chief Title IX Officer, the AVP serves as the university’s Title IX Coordinator and leads institutional compliance with Title IX regulations and related federal and state laws, ensuring compliant, equitable, timely, and impartial responses to reports of discrimination and harassment.
The AVP reports to the Vice President for SSWBB and supervises offices, staff, and programs within the division including the Director of Student Support and Development, the Director of Student Accessibility Services, the Director of International Student Engagement, two student success coaches, and the HOPE Scholars Transition Coach. Additionally, the position serves on university committees and fulfills institutional, state, and federal reporting requirements.
Specific duties include the following:
- Support and advance student retention initiatives by providing strategic leadership and oversight of programs and services that promote student success, persistence, and timely degree completion.
- Partner with academic and administrative offices to analyze retention and persistence data, identify barriers to student persistence, and implement evidence-based strategies that enhance student engagement, belonging, and overall retention outcomes.
- Collaborate with campus leaders to align departments/offices, policies, and programs that strengthen student retention, success, well-being, and belonging.
- Serve as the institutional lead for Title IX requirements, overseeing compliance, training, investigation, and response in accordance with federal and state regulations.
- Oversee SSWBB assessment and campus climate efforts and use data to drive accountability and continuous improvement.
- Serve on university committees, task forces, and workgroups to support institutional initiatives and strategic priorities.
- Identify opportunities to collaborate with community agencies and partners to support student development and broader institutional goals.
- Support grant initiatives, partnerships, and community engagement efforts that enhance student success, well-being, and belonging.
- Contribute to policy development, institutional planning, and reporting in alignment with state, federal, and accreditation requirements related to the division.
Position Qualifications
Successful applicants must have the following qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in higher education or relevant field
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive student affairs higher education experience
- Advanced experience with student affairs program development and assessment
- Proven experience creating, leading, and assessing higher education student success initiatives and other high-impact practices that support student success
- Experience applying FERPA, Clery Act, and Title IX laws and processes and evaluating the impact on higher education environments
- Experience in crisis management, emergency response, and student behavioral intervention
- Supervisory experience
- Budget management experience
- Strong leadership, collaboration, organizational, project management, problem‐solving, change management, and influencing skills
- Exceptional analytical, interpersonal, and empathetic listening skills, as well as verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, administration, and the external community, including individuals of various backgrounds, life experiences, and abilities
- Knowledge of issues, trends, and best practices in higher education and student affairs
- Microsoft Office proficiency
- Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends
Preferred candidates will have the following:
- Master’s degree in higher education or relevant field
- Experience as a Title IX Coordinator
- Experience with first-year and second-year higher education student programs
- Knowledge of student development theory
