Description of Job Duties and Responsibilities
The Department of Athletics at Fairmont State University is seeking a detail-oriented, strategic, and collaborative Business Manager to join our team. This critical role reports to the Director of Athletics and supports the athletic department. Supports the financial and operational functions of the department, ensuring smooth day-to-day management and long-term planning in alignment with the University's mission. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational and analytical skills, a passion for higher education, and a commitment to supporting the department of athletics and student success.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide high-level administrative and financial support to the Department of Athletics and the Director of Athletics.
- Collaborate with the Director of Athletics and Senior level athletic administration on budget development, management, purchasing, facility maintenance, and daily operations.
- Oversee daily financial activities, ensuring compliance with university policies and regulations, including budget preparation, accounting, cash management, and business planning, serving as the departments point of contact for operations relating to these functions.
- Evaluate effectiveness of financial and administrative operations and recommend improvements, providing reports and analyses as requested.
- Coordinate with the University's Office of Finance and Administration to implement financial reporting systems and controls.
- Oversee all department P-cards and manage financial aspects of P-card purchasing.
- Manage travel arrangements, reimbursements, and related documentation for athletic administration.
- Stay updated on university policies and suggest improvements to department processes.
- Develop processes aimed at enhancing the efficiency of administrative support functions.
- Performs related duties as necessary and as assigned.
Minimum Required Education
Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, higher education administration or related field.

Minimum Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible experience in administrative, financial, or business operations - preferably in a higher education setting.
- Strong knowledge of budgeting, procurement, and financial reporting practices.
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point) and Adobe Acrobat; ability to further develop skills and competencies in assigned University and department systems.
- Dependable, accountable, demonstrate good work ethic with a customer service orientation; good written and oral communication skills; good organizational and time management skills with ability to work cooperatively in a team environment; must be adaptable, flexible and have a tolerance for change and working in a fast-paced environment. Integrity and confidentially required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Five years of experience working in complex organizations, preferably in institutions of higher education; ability to work autonomously, analyzing situations and problems, developing and implementing solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders across departments
- Knowledge of university and state policies and procedures preferred.
