Ohlone Community College District is searching to fill 2 Athletic Trainer positions:

  • Athletic Trainer I: $65,186 - $83,182 (11-month position)
  • Athletic Trainer II/Head Athletic Trainer: $82,068 - $104,772 (12-month position)
  • If applying for both positions, placement will be determined by the hiring manager.

Ideal Candidate Statement

The candidate will also possess strong computer skills, be proficient in using online software programs, and be capable of multitasking, prioritizing projects, overseeing budgets, managing time effectively, and working independently with minimal supervision.

Position Descriptions

Athletic Trainer I: Under the direction of the Administrator, the Athletic Trainer I will assist in the development and implementation of a program for the prevention and care of athletic injuries; administers first-aid and emergency care; treats injuries and provide rehabilitation according to medical directions and standard medical practices; and to perform related duties as assigned.

Athletic Trainer II/Head Athletic Trainer: Under supervision of the Academic Dean or assigned administrator, the Athletic Trainer II/Head Athletic Trainer will coordinate the development, implementation and sustainability of all Athletic Training services for the Athletics Department; plan and organize all clinical and event hours in order to provide medical coverage and all evaluation & rehabilitation needs of the service community; coordinate with local physicians and emergency response teams to stay in compliance with EMS protocols; treats injuries and provide rehabilitation according to medical directions and standard medical practices; and to perform related duties as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Oversees and maintains confidential student health history records and documentation and informs coaching staff of health problems.
  2. Counsels students with mental health, general health or sports related injuries and makes referrals as needed to appropriate health agencies.
  3. Decides, in absence of team physician, whether an athlete is medically able to participate in practice and/or return to competition.
  4. Administers emergency first aid, and emergency medical care, including lifesaving procedures, to student-athletes and identifies and treats athletic related injuries.
  5. Schedules and coordinates athletic training staff and students or athletic health care services for all team practices and for both in season and non-traditional competitions.
  6. Provides athletic training services in conjunction with team practices and at hosted athletic events for both home and away teams.
  7. Administers the use of rehabilitation equipment and operates related therapeutic modalities as directed by the treating physician/s.
  8. In accordance with Bylaw 9 of the CCCAA Constitution and Bylaws, works in conjunction with the team physician/s to oversee a concussion management program and return to play protocol.
  9. Coordinates education seminars for both the coaching staffs and student-athletes and administers concussion baseline testing for all student-athletes who participate in intercollegiate athletics.
  10. Facilitates communication between athletes, coaches, parents, administration, team physician, student health services, risk management, and all other related parties as defined by the Student-Athlete Authorization Consent for Disclosure when appropriate.
  11. Inspects playing fields and athletic equipment; notes and reports health and/or safety hazards.
  12. Works to assist athletes with interpersonal issues including sexuality, drug abuse, personal, social and educational goals and objectives. In case of serious psychological difficulties, makes the appropriate professional referrals.
  13. Effectively engage and support historically minoritized groups by addressing issues of equity and improving culturally responsive service-oriented practices.
  14. Develops and maintains cooperative and effective working relationship with others including athletes, athletic trainers, coaches, parents, physicians and health center personnel.
  15. Supervises the use of athletic training equipment and maintains the athletic training clinic in a clean, sanitary and orderly condition.
  16. Reads, interprets, applies and explains rules regulations, policies and procedures related to athletic training and health services.
  17. Evaluates and recommends new techniques and equipment that would enhance the benefit of the athletic training program.
  18. Prepares written policies and procedures regarding emergency management, treatment and reconditioning of injured athletes including an annual review and update of established programs as necessary.
  19. Purchases, maintains, and repairs supplies and equipment as well as keep inventory of cleaning supplies and first aid kits.
  20. Assists in budget development, recommends and administers functional budgets for first aid supplies and equipment.
  21. Works in conjunction with coaches to ensure safety in the design and implementation of a fitness program for those athletes under the care of the sports medicine team.
  22. Reviews athletic insurance coverage and assists student athletes and staff in the correct submission of insurance claim forms including in assisting with completing medical insurance forms as needed.
  23. Coordinates and assists physician/s with screening of pre-participation physical examinations of athletes.
  24. Perform other related duties as assigned.

In addition, the Athletic Trainer II/Head Athletic Trainer will:

  1. Develop and implement specialized rehabilitation programs for athletes with complex injuries, utilizing evidence-based practices and cutting-edge techniques.
  2. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to develop and implement innovative injury prevention and rehabilitation programs.
  3. Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in sports medicine, and conduct research to improve injury prevention and rehabilitation practices.
  4. Provides guidance to athletic training staff.
  5. Lead regular meetings and training sessions.
  6. Develop and implement policies and procedures for the athletic training department, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations.
  7. Serve as a liaison between the athletic department and external healthcare providers, fostering strong relationships and ensuring seamless communication.
  8. Oversee the budget for the athletic training department, make informed decisions about resource allocation, and identify cost-saving opportunities.

Knowledge Of

  • Methods, practices, terminology and techniques used in athletic training, including but not limited to the prevention of injuries.
  • Athletic injuries, applicable treatment, rehabilitation, first aid and emergency care techniques.
  • Operation of rehabilitation equipment and therapeutic modalities used in the athletic training clinic.
  • Applicable laws and regulations related to intercollegiate athletics.
  • Health and safety regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination equivalent to: Master's degree in Athletic Training from a CAATE accredited athletic training education program OR Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training from a CAATE accredited athletic training education program AND a Master's degree in Kinesiology or related discipline;

AND

Must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices.

Other Requirements

  • Valid California Class C Driver's License
  • Proof of current certification as an Athletic Trainer (ATC) in good standing from the Board of Certification, Inc. (BOC)
  • Proof of current certification in First Aid, CPR and AED for the Professional Rescuer/Healthcare Provider
