AV Specialist
Job Summary
The AV Specialist provides AV support for all departments the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine Computer Support team supports. The AV Specialist provides AV support for all classroom and meeting rooms in the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine building as their primary function and responsibility. This person will also provide backup support for other buildings and departments that are supported by our team.
Information Technology Specialists
Perform duties across multiple areas of information technology, such as computer hardware, server software, networking, telecommunications, computer support, database analysis, data security, and other areas of the overall IT platform/infrastructure. Responsible for the stability, integrity, and operation of all systems by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all network software, hardware, and operating systems. Report system downtime and performance issues. Conduct analysis, including planning, designing, and evaluating a variety of information technology tools. Respond to user requests for system needs and upgrades. Manage security solutions, including firewalls, antivirus, and intrusion protection systems. Perform scheduled network tasks, update antivirus definition files, monitor network servers, and provide internet and intranet user support. Participate in IT projects to drive technological efficiencies.
Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain AV hardware and software systems in conference rooms, classrooms, or event spaces
- Provide real-time technical support during meetings or events to ensure seamless operation
- Diagnose and resolve audio, video, and connectivity issues quickly and efficiently
- Perform routine maintenance and system checks to ensure equipment reliability
- Assist with AV system upgrades and new installations
- Provide end-user support and training for AV systems and conferencing tools
- Communicate clearly with non-technical users to resolve issues and explain system functionality
- Collaborate with IT teams, event coordinators, and external vendors when needed
Minimum Qualifications
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience). Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels: Information Technology Specialists, II: Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 4 years or a master's (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong familiarity with Windows and Mac operating systems, including system setup, basic troubleshooting, device configuration, and software installation
- Experience with Extron interfaces and AV control systems, including configuration, operation, and basic diagnostics
- Working knowledge of online meeting platforms (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams), including setup, troubleshooting audio/video issues, and user support
- Understanding of audio-visual signal flow, including microphones, speakers, displays, switchers, and cabling
