The Graduate School is seeking a highly qualified Big Red Barn Graduate and Professional Student Center Manager.
This is a full-time, 40 hour/week, on campus position. This position operates on a consistent schedule that can include evening and some weekend hours, ensuring ongoing operational coverage and support. However, to meet evolving needs general flexibility with scheduling will be required. Some hybrid activities are possible, but the position will be expected to be on campus regularly (when the Barn is not in operation there can be flexible work arrangements). Fully remote work is not available for this position.
The hiring budget for this position is between $65,447 - $68,000/annual.

Purpose and Goals:
Within the Office of Graduate Student Life, the Manager provides vision and leadership to ensure that the Barn is a welcoming and inclusive space where our diverse graduate and professional student community can experience belonging, community, and connection. The Barn is a home to more than 10,000 graduate and professional students across campus who are able to use the space. Through the graduate student staff and fellow program, the Barn Manager offers supervision and oversight for programming that reflects student interests and needs. The Manager applies student development theory and best practices to guide effective programming strategies. In alignment with Cornell's core values, the Barn serves as an inclusive space for all graduate students. The Manager is a student affairs professional dedicated to fostering a strong sense of belonging and will also support the operation of the facility and the overall functioning of the Barn.
Responsibilities:
The Manager position, reporting to the Associate Dean for Graduate Student Life, will:
- Develop effective programming through proven needs assessment, implementation, and evaluation methods.
- Provide supervision and direction to 30+ Barn staff (who are graduate and professional students) to oversee the operation of the signature programs (e.g., Tell Grads Its Friday (T.G.I.F.), Trivia Night, etc.) and snack service.
- Supervise and mentor student fellows (to include wellness, sustainability, cultural, arts, social, and family) in creating experiences that reflect the needs of the students.
- Mentor additional campus-wide student organizations, departments, and other users on program planning, implementation, and evaluation related to hosting events at the Barn.
- Support the operation of the Barn facility, including financial management, marketing and communication, and facility management.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and 2-4 years of experience in Student Affairs/Higher Education or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in programming, student life or graduate administration, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Supervisory experience is necessary.
- Proven ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated skill in understanding cultural differences.
Preferred:
- Master's degree preferred.
- Experience with budgets and facilities management.
- Experience contributing to and/or managing social media accounts for professional purposes.
- Knowledge of Cornell structures, policies, systems, and environment.
