Job Description Summary

The Seale lab in the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology (CDB) and Institute for Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism (IDOM) is seeking a Bioinformatician A/B to develop and apply biostatistical theory and methods to the research projects focused on fat tissue biology, obesity and diabetes. Responsible for computational analysis of genomic data using machine learning and statistical methods and applications. Will work with the PI and lab members to support their research aims. Will work with investigators to provide assistance on study designs, present results, and publish findings. Position is contingent upon continued funding.

Job Responsibilities Bioinformatician A/B

  • Analyze or manipulate bioinformatics data using software packages, statistical applications, or data mining techniques.
  • Extend existing software programs, web-based interactive tools, or database queries as sequence management and analysis needs evolve.
  • Maintain awareness of new and emerging computational methods and technologies.
  • Conduct quality analyses of data inputs and resulting analyses or predictions.
  • Enter or retrieve information from structural databases, protein sequence motif databases, mutation databases, genomic databases or gene expression databases.
  • Managing Data storage
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Additional Responsibilities of Bioinformatician B

  • Draw conclusions or make predictions, based on data summaries or statistical analyses.
  • Analyze clinical or survey data, using statistical approaches such as longitudinal analysis, mixed-effect modeling, logistic regression analyses, and model-building techniques
  • Write detailed analysis plans and descriptions of analyses and findings for research protocols or reports.
  • Read current literature, attend meetings or conferences, and talk with colleagues to keep abreast of methodological or conceptual developments in fields such as biostatistics, pharmacology, life sciences, and social sciences.

Qualifications of Bioinformatician A

Bachelor of Science and 3 to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Qualifications of Bioinformatician B

Master of Science and 3 to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required

Pay Range

$57,500.00 - $101,200.50 Annual Rate

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, and in alignment with salary ranges based on external market data for the job's level. Internal organization and peer data at Penn are also considered.
