The Blakcademy is the Faculty of Medicine & Health’s First Peoples Academy, leading First Peoples education, student success, research, and community partnerships. Through self-determination, cultural capability, and anti-racism, the Blakcademy works to improve First Peoples health outcomes and ensure graduates are prepared to provide culturally safe and equitable healthcare.
The Opportunity
Play a key role within the Faculty of Medicine & Health, providing operational leadership and effective management across the four pillars of the Blakcademy, which include: First Peoples Education, Student Success, Research & Research Training, and Community Partnerships. The role is essential to advance, develop and evaluate and maintain teaching, student success, research and community partnerships strategies that align with the Blakcademy’s key priorities in line with the Faculty’s Strategy Medicine & Health 2030 and the UNSW Strategy Progress for All. The role supports and provides strategic and operational management advice to the Deputy Dean Indigenous and Associate Dean First Peoples Education & Student Success on the full range of Blakcademy activities and performance.
Key skills and experience required:
- Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
- Demonstrated experience in financial planning and management and proven ability to interpret financial data to provide high quality advice.
- Demonstrated experience in undertaking engagement activities and working with First Peoples communities to support integration of Indigenous culture and cultural values in a higher education setting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of interpersonal skills to engage effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong consultation, influencing and negotiation skills with demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proven skills and experience in resource planning, goal setting and project management.
- Demonstrated experience in business improvement activities or leading change processes.
- Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
- Highly competent computer literacy skills.
