West Virginia University Medicine/ West Virginia University (WVU) and the Department of Pathology, Anatomy & Laboratory Medicine (PALM) seek a highly motivated Blood Bank/ Transfusion Medicine pathologist for appointment at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank. The successful candidate will practice at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV, and provide support throughout the WVU Medicine system.

Duties: Responsibilities include medical consultative services in Transfusion Medicine, Coagulation, and the Stem cell Laboratory. Leadership positions and roles supporting the WVU Health System Patient Blood Management Program are available for candidates with specialized training, skills and experience. There is tremendous potential for candidates to collaborate on research and scholarly activities with faculty across WVU departments. In addition to providing excellent patient care, the successful candidate will also be actively involved in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows.

Qualifications: Experience in all aspects of clinical transfusion medicine practice, including immunohematology, transfusion service, cellular therapy, and coagulation is required. Applicants must have strong training and expertise in BB/TM and be committed to excellent patient care, scholarship, and teaching. Successful candidates must have an MD or DO degree, be board certified in pathology (CP or AP/CP), be board certified/eligible in Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine, and be eligible to obtain a WV state medical license. Secondary interest in another area of Clinical Pathology, in particular Microbiology, is desirable but not required. All qualifications must be met by the time of appointment.

About the Department: WVU PALM is a diverse and expanding team of over 40 faculty specializing in all areas of anatomic and clinical pathology as well as laboratory medicine and anatomical sciences. Clinical services are supported by advanced Digital Pathology and Telepathology systems, and state-of-the-art ancillary testing (IHC, cytogenetics, FISH, NGS) is performed onsite. Faculty research activities are supported by the PALM Tissue Bank, Research Histology Lab, Brain Bank and the Rapid Development Laboratory. The Department serves West Virginia University Hospitals, the premier regional referral center for West Virginia and parts of Pennsylvania and Maryland. The institution offers a collaborative professional environment, advanced technology, and highly regarded clinical programs.
