Join the UniSQ Data Assets and Access team as a Business Intelligence Senior Advisor and help deliver trusted, high-quality data and analytics that enable evidence-based decision-making across the University. In this role you’ll bring deep technical expertise across modern BI platforms (Microsoft Fabric/Power BI), data modelling, and data pipelines to design, build and support enterprise reporting and analytics services.
Who you are
You’re a data-savvy professional who thrives on turning complexity into clarity. With a strong foundation in business intelligence, you bring both technical expertise and a strategic mindset – understanding not just how to work with data, but how to make it meaningful.
You enjoy working across the full data lifecycle, from sourcing and transforming data to delivering insights that influence real decisions. You’re naturally curious, detail-oriented and committed to data quality, governance and continuous improvement.
Collaborative by nature, you build strong relationships with technical teams and business stakeholders alike, translating complex data into clear, actionable insights. You take pride in enabling others to confidently use data, and you’re motivated by contributing to a culture of evidence-based decision-making and organisational impact.
What you'll do
In this role, you’ll play a key part in strengthening the University’s data capability - transforming complex data into trusted insights that drive planning, performance, and strategic decision-making. Your work will directly influence how the University understands and uses its data to achieve better outcomes.
You’ll design and deliver scalable business intelligence solutions across enterprise platforms, developing robust data pipelines, models and reporting layers that ensure data is accurate, accessible and fit for purpose. Working hands-on across the full BI lifecycle, you’ll extract, transform and manage large data sets while upholding strong standards of data quality, integrity and governance.
Collaborating closely with stakeholders across the University, you’ll provide expert advice, uplift data literacy, and support the effective use of reporting tools.
In your first 6–12 months, you’ll enhance core data models, improve pipelines and deliver more consistent, reliable insights. You’ll also identify opportunities to strengthen platforms and processes, bringing forward innovative ideas and emerging technologies that enhance the University’s decision-support capability.
This is an opportunity to shape how data is used at scale—building solutions that have real impact, while continuing to grow your expertise in a collaborative, forward-thinking environment.
What will help you succeed
You bring a strong foundation in business intelligence, data management or data science, backed by a relevant degree and subsequent experience. You’ve worked with enterprise data environments and know how to turn complex data into reliable, meaningful insights that support decision-making.
You’ll thrive in this role if you have:
- Proven experience delivering business intelligence solutions, ideally within enterprise “single source of truth” data environments
- Advanced capability in Microsoft Fabric/Power BI, including building dashboards, data modelling (Power Query, DAX) and secure data sharing
- Strong technical skills in building and maintaining data pipelines (ETL/ELT), with tools such as SQL/SSMS and Visual Studio Code; experience with R or Python is a bonus
- The ability to translate data into clear, compelling insights, with strong communication and storytelling skills
- A collaborative, client-focused approach, with experience working across teams to deliver high-quality outcomes
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a mindset geared toward innovation and continuous improvement
