Be a Tar Heel!: A global higher education leader in innovative teaching, research and public service, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill consistently ranks as one of the nation’s top public universities. Known for its beautiful campus, world-class medical care, commitment to the arts and top athletic programs, Carolina is an ideal place to teach, work and learn.

One of the best college towns and best places to live in the United States, Chapel Hill has diverse social, cultural, recreation and professional opportunities that span the campus and community. University employees can choose from a wide range of professional training opportunities for career growth, skill development and lifelong learning and enjoy exclusive perks for numerous retail, restaurant and performing arts discounts, savings on local child care centers and special rates on select campus events. UNC-Chapel Hill offers full-time employees a comprehensive benefits package, paid leave, and a variety of health, life and retirement plans and additional programs that support a healthy work/life balance.

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit: The Center for European Studies (CES) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill advances understanding of the social, political, cultural and economic events that shape contemporary Europe. The overarching mandate of the Center is to enhance undergraduate and graduate instruction in contemporary European studies, to promote scholarship and training for students and faculty from all disciplines and professional schools, and to stimulate institutional and public awareness of Europe’s social, economic, cultural, and political importance on campus, in North Carolina, and across the nation. Established in 1993, CES is one of only four in the nation to be designated as both a National Resource Center by the US Department of Education and a Jean Monnet Center of Excellence by the European Union. CES is consistently recognized among the top centers for European studies in the country for its innovative programming.

CES works with more than 55 core and 200 affiliate faculty across the university, providing support for curricular, research, and programmatic endeavors impacting thousands of students annually. The Center is home to UNC’s undergraduate Contemporary European Studies Major (EURO), the only bachelor’s degree of its kind in the state. We also serve as the lead institution in the Transatlantic Masters Program (TAM), which offers three specializations in transatlantic studies in consortium with 10 universities across Europe and one in Turkey, offering an MA in Political Science from UNC, as well as degrees from our partners. CES further sustains instruction by funding course development grants across UNC’s academic departments and professional schools. The Center advances scholarship on Europe through workshops, conferences, visiting speaker series, and travel and research grants to UNC faculty and students. CES offers prestigious Foreign Languages Area Studies (FLAS) fellowships to both undergraduate and graduate students to study contemporary Europe and both less and commonly taught European languages. Finally, we share resources and expertise about contemporary Europe and the EU with local, state, and federal government agencies, K-12 schools, community colleges, minority-serving institutions, private sector organizations, and the public at large. Our outreach initiatives serve more than 5,000 people every year.

Position Summary: The primary purpose of this position is to administer and manage the business, financial, and administrative affairs of the Center for European Studies, including all grants and scholarships (both in USD and EUR), F&A accounts, and trust accounts, the TransAtlantic Masters (TAM) Program, and the Contemporary European Studies major. The position is also responsible for managing grant budgets, organizing detailed records, and creating financial reporting documentation to send to grant providers. The position supports all Center activities. The position serves as liaison between CES and the College of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office and other campus units on business and financial transaction matters.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Entry-level with Masters; or Bachelors and 0-2 yrs experience

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience: The individual in this position must be an independent self-starter possessing excellent organizational skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills and be very detail-oriented. This person must be able to balance the demands of this position as well as successfully interact with CES staff, their affiliated programs, centers, universities and the College of Arts and Sciences Business Center staff.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience: Three to five years of related work experience is preferred; interest in Europe is a plus.
