Business Program Manager (Johns Hopkins Data Science & AI Institute)

We are seeking a Business Program Manager who will join a collaborative program management team that plays a critical role in developing and delivering these programs and initiatives. In this role, the Program Manager will provide programmatic, administrative, and operational leadership for key DSAI initiatives — working closely with institute leadership, faculty, and partners across Johns Hopkins and beyond.
The Business Program Manager will be responsible for managing multiple projects at the divisional level or large programs. The Business Program Manager is responsible for providing program management, business, and administrative leadership for programs. This position will provide overall management for programs including research and writing.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide overall program management including setting goals, creating workplans, project tracking, creating milestones, assigning tasks, reporting, and follow-up.
- Establish, lead, and implement the development of process flows, policies, and procedures.
- Develop procedures, protocols, and flow charts for planning and organization of program initiatives.
- Monitor resource needs and make recommendations for adjustments to those resources; implement agreed-upon solutions, which may include hiring staff to ensure the program runs efficiently.
- Organize and contribute to program strategy discussions among stakeholders providing feedback as appropriate to advance short- and long-term goals.
- Ensure timely responses to regular and ad hoc requests for information from stakeholders.
- Collect critical programmatic, workforce development, and collaborative data for all projects.
- Manage program budgets in collaboration with finance and business leaders.
- Collect, manage, and use data to guide informed decision-making. Produce reports. Execute competitive analysis as needed.
- Facilitate communication with stakeholders to effectively manage timely workflows.
- Manage external collaborative partnerships to engage stakeholders in programming, philanthropy, and overall support of the program.
- May supervise and/or oversee operational staff with program responsibilities.
- Other duties as assigned.
In addition to the duties described above:
- Coordinate DSAI signature programs that span multiple Johns Hopkins schools and divisions, including the Postdoctoral Research Fellows program and DSAI Summer Interns program, supporting interdisciplinary research, education, and engagement initiatives with faculty, administrators, students, trainees, and external partners.
- Plan and execute DSAI annual meetings, workshops, committee meetings, advisory board meetings, and other major events, including logistics, communications, evaluation, and follow up.
- Support DSAI leadership with strategic planning, advisory board and committee coordination, internal and external communications, and preparation of written materials that advance institute priorities.
- Build and manage relationships with faculty and leadership across Johns Hopkins, government agencies, industry partners, community organizations, and philanthropic stakeholders to advance collaborative programs.
- Develop and manage processes surrounding DSAI-funded programs and initiatives, including competitive grant programs such as seed grants, Trusted Data Sets, Demonstration Projects, and other DSAI-specific funded programs, large and small; support proposal preparation, award coordination, compliance, collaborator meetings, and tracking of deliverables and funding commitments.
- Identify ways to improve efficiency and effectiveness of programs in collaboration with other program managers and leadership.
- Track, measure, and report program outcomes.
- Coordinate closely with DSAI communications teams on program marketing and communications related efforts.
- Develop and monitor program budgets as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
- Three years of related experience.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using common business, project management, and presentation tools, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, Asana, and related collaboration platforms.
- Familiarity with AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or others.
- Strong writing, presentation, data analysis, budget management, grant writing or proposal development, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
- Experience in academic, research, or higher education administration preferred.
- Experience supporting interdisciplinary programs, sponsored projects, philanthropic or other nontraditional funding, advisory boards, committees, or major events preferred.
- Experience managing complex programs or initiatives with multiple stakeholder groups.
On call or non-standard work hour requirements
- No regular on call requirement is anticipated.
- Occasional evening or early morning hours may be required for major events, meetings with external partners, or time sensitive deadlines.
