Campus Custodial Assistant
Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of an assigned Custodial Supervisor, applies knowledge of cleaning techniques and performs a variety of custodial duties required to maintain Campus buildings areas clean, orderly, and safe by using hand tools or equipment. Performs work in accordance with Institute safety standards and regulatory agencies (e.g. OSHA, EPA and CDC guidelines)
Essential Job Duties
- In coordination and cooperation with other crew members, performs cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting duties that include, but are not limited to the following:
- Cleans and maintains floors including stairwells by sweeping and wet mopping several type of floor surfaces using hand tools or equipment.
- Cleans and maintains carpets by vacuuming and spot cleaning carpets and upholstered furniture using tools or equipment.
- Cleans and disinfects restrooms, showers, kitchens, locker rooms, on a high frequency schedule.
- Cleans and sanitizes high-traffic public areas and frequently touched sources on a high frequency schedule.
- Washes and spot clean walls, blackboards, interior windows, light covers, glass surfaces and elevators.
- Dusts horizontal and vertical surfaces, which may require working at heights (6' max)
- Removes trash by hand or cart and moves trash to designated trash disposal areas.
- Removes recyclables from building interior and breaks down cardboard boxes.
- Maintains building entrances by sweeping entries and vacuuming entry carpets.
- Climbs ladders, replace burnt out lights, moves/arranges furniture, and lift/carry items of up to 50 lbs. during the daily assignments.
- Responsible for the custody of building keys in assigned work area for the duration of the work shift; and unlock entry building doors as directed on security building schedule.
- Must be able to work overtime, including weekends when required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Restocks janitorial closet when cleaning supplies are delivered to assigned building.
Basic Qualifications
- At least six months of experience working as a custodian in a fast-paced educational or commercial environment.
- Ability to effectively communicate and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Familiar with custodial hand tools and cleaning techniques preferred.
- Must be able to work this assigned work schedule: 5:00AM - 1:30PM, Monday - Friday with overtime hours as needed.
- Adhere to safety protocols, including the proper use of cleaning solutions, equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift/carry a maximum of 50lbs. and walk, push, pull, climb, twist, stoop, and bend to accomplish job requirements on a regular basis.
Preferred Qualifications
A valid California Driver's license. Eligible and able to adhere to the Institute's Motor Vehicle policy.
