Campus Facilities Engineer
Job Summary
To plan, coordinate, implement, support, and maintain the infrastructure and equipment of buildings and facilities. Direct the maintenance program and minor projects for facilities and building systems. Responsible for the management, supervision and coordination of staff and trades/crafts in respective areas.
Core Responsibilities
- Establishes, maintains, and provides reporting on comprehensive preventative maintenance programs for facilities and building systems including but not limited to HVAC, electrical, plumbing and structural for the university.
- Provides operations and maintenance support and interface during project management projects by participating throughout the design and construction process including the review of construction plans and specifications to ensure the final product is maintainable and sustainability upon completion.
- Manages occasional upgrade and construction work/projects.
- Ensures appropriate maintenance management systems and equipment are available to facilitate the completion of work in an effective and efficient manner.
- Completes condition assessments on systems and equipment based on field observations, measurements, and other appropriate means.
- Prepares reports, technical information, plans, and recommendations necessary to evaluate and determine maintenance and planning requirements.
- Maintains and updates operations and maintenance-oriented informational resources and records obtained from projects and repairs including but not limited to warranty information, submittals, drawings, and operation and maintenance manuals.
- Manages assigned supervisors, technical support, or trade personnel performing preventative maintenance and specialized services.
- Establishes, maintains, and provides in-house and UT System reporting on a comprehensive Deferred Maintenance Program for facilities and building systems including but not limited to HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and structural for the university. Oversees and provides data entry in the UT System Deferred Maintenance Database.
- Manages the Facilities Dining and Housing team in supporting the Campus Services and Housing & Residence Life organizations.
- Fosters a team in which safety, procedural adherence, operational excellence, and result orientation are the foundation.
- Attends and participates in departmental meetings, training, and related activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Current Professional Engineer Registration/Licensure or the ability to obtain one within six months of hire in either Mechanical or Electrical engineering.
- Four (4) years of professional work experience in engineering, facilities, or construction fields.
- Experience managing/supervising complex maintenance operations.
- Experience in the development and establishment of maintenance and operations programs including preventative maintenance.
- Must have and maintain a valid Texas Driver's License and maintain an acceptable driver rating as established by UT System.
- This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.
Preferred Qualifications
- MS Office (Access, Visio, Project) experience.
- Experience in facilities construction methods and processes.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, decision-making, and organizational skills.
- Ability to effectively and efficiently manage multiple assignments in a timely and quality manner.
- Ability to use CMMS (Computer Maintenance Management System) and qualitative and quantitative methods for analysis.
- Ability to work effectively as an individual with minimal direction, and as part of a larger team.
- Willing to work and adapt in a rapidly changing environment with minimal supervision.
Working Conditions
- Dampness, dust, and some work in restricted spaces.
- May be exposed to potential occupational hazards.
- Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions, or other business-related events.
- Occasional after-hours and weekend work or overtime may be required.
- Respond to odd hours, emergency, etc. situations.
Physical Demands
- Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required, only occasionally.
- Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally.
This position will work primarily on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
This position is contingent upon a successful background check. Verification of a valid driver's license and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) may be completed as applicable. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
