Overview
Help shape the future of Auburn University's beautiful campus. As a Campus Planner with Auburn University Facilities Management, you'll play a vital role in guiding the thoughtful, sustainable, and strategic development of Auburn's Main Campus and all university-owned properties. Your work will ensure that every space, present and future, supports the university's mission, reflects its character, and enhances the Auburn experience for generations to come.
In this role, you will lead and support planning efforts that range from land use and space optimization to transportation, landscape design, historic preservation, and major capital projects. You'll conduct planning studies, analyze campus needs, and ensure that proposed developments align with the Campus Master Plan and Auburn's established design standards. Your expertise will help drive short, mid, and long-term planning initiatives, while your collaborative spirit will support partnerships across campus, from senior leadership to external consultants.
You'll also serve as a key steward of Auburn's physical resources, managing planning data, developing GIS mapping, coordinating consultant work, and maintaining agreements for the use of university land and facilities. Responsibilities
- Conducts planning studies to determine the near- and long-term feasibility of proposed projects on the Main Campus and all university properties related to master planning, space planning, capital project planning, land use, space utilization, infrastructure development, transportation/circulation, landscape design, natural resource preservation, historic preservation, and other areas, as required.
- Verifies that proposed development and improvement projects comply with university standards as established in the Campus Master Plan, Landscape Master Plan, Image & Character of Auburn University, Space Standards, and all other appropriate university guidelines, policies and standards, and advises on such; develops and disseminates new and updated land and space planning guidelines, policies and standards, as appropriate.
- Assists the Director of Campus Planning and Space Management and other responsible Facilities Management executives in the development and update of short-, mid- and long-range campus and space planning efforts.
- Manages the use of outside consultants in major planning efforts by preparing requests for proposals, overseeing the consultant selection process, organizing stakeholder meetings, administering contracts, and reporting on progress.
- Develops and maintains agreements pertaining to the use of university land or interior spaces by the campus community.
- Collects, analyzes and reports on data used for the analysis of physical planning efforts involving land use, space utilization, campus landscape, student housing, campus transportation, sustainability and other areas; develops and updates metrics regularly.
- Utilizes GIS for collecting, analyzing, and disseminating planning data, including creating maps and basic spatial analyses using ESRI ArcGIS tools such as ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
- Supports the maintenance and organization of campus geospatial datasets to assist planning analysis.
- Assists with preparation of GIS supported materials such as maps, dashboards, and simple web applications for planning communication needs.
- Represents Campus Planning and Space Management in outreach efforts to both the on- and off campus community by serving on university committees and by representing Auburn University in relations with the local government, press, and residents.
- Advances university planning efforts by analyzing existing planning processes, and by recommending and implementing, and socializing improvements.
- Occasionally provides capital project design work if planner is formally trained in a design related discipline
Qualifications
Degree in Architecture, Urban Planning, Building Construction, Interior Design, Engineering, or a related field.
Level I- Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Urban Planning, Building Construction, Interior Design, Engineering, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
Level II-Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Urban Planning, Building Construction, Interior Design, Engineering, or related field. Master's degree preferred
AND 2 years of experience in designing, planning, analyzing, and managing complex projects.
Level III-Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Urban Planning, Building Construction, Interior Design, Engineering, or related field. Master's degree preferred
AND 4 years of experience in designing, planning, analyzing, and managing complex projects.
Substitutions allowed for Education:
8 years of experience in designing, planning, analyzing, and managing complex projects accepted in lieu of education requirement.
