About the opportunity

The Career Support Leader position sits within the University of Sydney’s Careers Centre, which supports students on their career journey by providing resources, advice and experiences to help them develop their professional skills. The Careers Centre also connects with industry partners to gain industry insights and assist employers in recruiting USYD students. The Careers Centre comprises of three departments: Career Development, Industry Development, and Resources and Information. Depending on the project or task, this position may work across all three areas. 

  Career Support Leaders support activities to enhance the career development of USYD students. Under the guidance of the Careers staff, the Career Support Leader will provide first level assistance to students with career-related queries, in person, at the Careers Centre located on the ground floor of the Carslaw Building. Career Support Leaders will also assist the Careers team with content creation, program development, administrative tasks, industry-specific research, and event coordination. This role aims to engage USYD students with their professional identity and provide a valuable 'student voice' in all activities. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Peer Career Advising – Providing students with first level career advice, in-person and online, including general tips and advice on job search and recruitment processes, review of application documents and referring students to relevant resources, services and initiatives. (Full training will be provided).  
  • Content Creation: Develop engaging content for the Career Centre's website and social media platforms, including conducting interviews with alumni, peers, and industry partners to create informative and engaging career content and industry insights for students.  
  • Workshops: Assist in the planning and execution of workshops to provide students advice and guidance on things such as career planning and job applications to support students on their career journey.  
  • Program Development: Collaborate on the development of programs for both domestic and international students, aimed at making students 'job ready’ and providing career development opportunities.  
  • Event Assistance: Support with the organisation and execution of events such as Career Fairs, Open Day, and Welcome Week.  
  • Administrative Tasks: Perform various administrative duties as required to support the Career Centre's operations.  
  • Undertake other duties appropriate within the classification level as required. 

About you

  • Exciting opportunity for University of Sydney students (domestic and international) with at least 1 year left in their degree study 
  • Tertiary qualification in Business Administration or equivalent training and experience 
  • Extensive experience in executive-level administration within complex environments 
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and adapting quickly to changing demands 
  • Contribute to a collaborative team culture, supporting colleagues and fostering positive working relationships 
  • Strong ability to manage time, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines under pressure 
  • Skilled in negotiation, conflict resolution, and building effective relationships 
  • Clear and professional communicator with discretion and empathy 
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital tools, including diary and travel coordination 
  • Knowledge of university structures, governance processes, and academic operations 
  • Independent and proactive approach with sound judgement and confidentiality 
  • Focus on service excellence, continuous learning, and contributing to inclusive team culture
