PhD Scholarship - ARC Training Centre for Automated Vehicles in Rural and Remote Regions

About the Scholarship

Swinburne University of Technology invites expressions of interest for a fully funded PhD scholarship for the ARC Training Centre for Automated Vehicles in Rural and Remote Regions research program. We are seeking a PhD candidate to work on cutting-edge research, in particular, multi-modalities AI, 3D vision and Robotic vision.

To be considered for this role, you will have a strong interest in computer vision, AI and/or robotics techniques and be enthusiastic, well-organised, and have excellent oral and written communication skills, as evidenced by publications, including in peer-reviewed journals. A programming skill (e.g. Python) would also be essential for this position. 

The successful candidate will work closely with Swinburne researchers, industry partners, and collaborating universities, and will have the ability to work autonomously and be self-directed in learning, as well as contributing to team activities and discussions.

About you 

We are looking for a motivated candidate with a passion for impactful research. 

You will have: 

  • Substantial background in computer vision and artificial intelligence.
  • Proficient programming skills in Python, with solid experience using PyTorch
  • Hands-on experience with computer vision projects involving multi-modal data (e.g., RGB, depth, video, or sensor signals).
  • Proven experience in deep learning projects employing state-of-the-art techniques and tools, such as attention mechanisms, Transformer architectures, VLMs, LLM, etc.
  • Experience working with imaging sensors and platforms such as drones or robotic systems is preferred.
