Position Summary
The Department of Nursing within the School of Nursing and Health Sciences invites applications for a Chair of the Undergraduate Nursing Program who will serve as a full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure-track faculty member at a rank up to Professor. This is a 9-month faculty appointment accompanied by a 12-month secondary administrative appointment as Chair. The faculty and Chair roles are interdependent and must be held concurrently; continuation in each role is contingent upon service in the other.
Rank (Assistant, Associate, or Professor) will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Essential Duties
- The successful candidate will be expected to assume the position of Chair and perform teaching responsibilities within the undergraduate and graduate programs.
- Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for undergraduate nursing programs to ensure academic excellence and student success.
- Ensure full compliance with CCNE accreditation standards and PA BON regulations, and lead the preparation and submission of all required reports.
- Oversee curriculum design, implementation, and continuous improvement aligned with accreditation standards and evolving healthcare needs.
- Direct the launch and accreditation of new prelicensure programs. Recruit, mentor, and evaluate faculty to foster a collaborative, growth-oriented environment.
- Monitor and improve student outcomes including retention, graduation rates, and licensure exam (NCLEX-RN) pass rates in collaboration with the Director, Pathways to Practice.
- Teach undergraduate or graduate nursing courses as assigned.
- Work closely with the Dean of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences (SONHS) as an integral part of a dedicated team of chairs and program directors.
- Represent the department on University committees and initiatives.
- Establish and maintain relationships with healthcare organizations and community partners to support clinical placements and professional opportunities for students in collaboration with the Director, Clinical Placements.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Other related duties as assigned by the Dean of SONHS.
Required Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in nursing or an appropriate discipline from an accredited institution.
- Current registered nurse license in Pennsylvania or multistate license.
- A minimum of five years of recent classroom and clinical experience.
- Program oversight and/or leadership experience in higher education.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Evidence of scholarship, other than doctoral dissertation, which may be demonstrated by contributions to the professional literature, presentations at national, state, or local meetings and/or grantsmanship.
- Participation in School and/or University Committees.
- Participation in professional organizations at local, state or national levels.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Chair or Director.
- Prior experience with program and curriculum development.
- Experience working with nursing accrediting and licensing bodies.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours
- The Chair is required to be available on a 12-month basis.
- Some evening and weekend work will be required at times, including for student recruitment events and other departmental activities.
