Teaching

The incumbent will be expected to participate in the teaching programs of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery including the residency program based at Rhode Island Hospital, Hasbro Children's Hospital, The Miriam Hospital and the Providence Veteran's Affairs Hospital-as well as fellowship programs in Adult Reconstruction, Foot and Ankle, Hand, Pediatrics, Shoulder and Elbow, Spine, Sports Medicine and Trauma.

Research

The incumbent will be expected to establish, coordinate, and integrate clinical orthopaedic surgery research protocols at Rhode Island Hopital and The Miriam Hospital. The incumbent will also be expected to participate on a national level in cooperative research planning. The incumbent will be expected to establish an independent investigative program, preferably focusing on orthopaedic surgery or a closely related field. A percentage of protected research time, space and scholarly activity/productivity will be allocated at a minimum of 20%. The incumbent will serve as a liason between Rhode Island Hospital, The Miriam Hospital, Providence Veteran's Administration Medical Center, Women & Infants Hospital, and the various programs of Brown University and its affiliated hospitals.

Patient Care

The incumbent will be expected to spend time on the clinical service and to see patients in the Orthopaedic Surgery outpatient unit.

Service Responsibilities

The incumbent will be expected to actively participate in all activities of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.

Minimum requirements include: board eligibility or certification in orthopedic surgery, strong clinical background in orthopaedic surgery, excellence in patient care and teaching, and a commitment to scholarly participation in the orthopaedic surgery research programs of The Warren Alpert Medical School. An MD or MD/PhD with a distinguished national record in Orthopaedics as demonstrated by research publications, involvement and demonstrated leadership in academic societies at a national level is highly desirable. Furthermore, a distinguished record and accomplishment in scholarship, teaching, research, and clinical service is highly desirable. Progressive operational and financial management and leadership experience, preferably in an academic medical center setting, is highly desirable. It is preferred that the candidate's research experience focus on orthopaedic surgery or a closely related field.
