Chief, General Neurology

The Yale University School of Medicine, Department of Neurology seeks to hire an inaugural section Chief of General Neurology at the rank of Associate Professor/ Professor. 

The section of General Neurology (GN) is being established at a time the importance of this field in reducing the burden of neurologic disease and promote brain health is increasingly recognized by national and international professional organizations. General neurologists are recognized as essential to ensure a rapid, accessible, cost-effective and comprehensive management of patients with neurologic disease in the community where they live. General neurologists offer the first contact for patients with neurological symptoms and for longitudinal care for patients with many neurological conditions; for those with a rare disease for whom there is no specialty clinic; and in emergency situations. The Division of GN includes the Neurology Urgent Access Clinic (NUAC) and the Yale Neurology Resident Clinics. NUAC provides expedited evaluation of patients referred from community physicians and decompresses emergency departments across the health system. It enhances the performance of clinical Neuroscience inpatient teams by offering timely follow up slots. The GN section enhances efficiency of our tertiary care subspecialty services by assisting in the initial evaluation and care of patients. It takes on a lead role in educating the next generation of general neurologists. The section is at the core of the Yale Medicine/ Yale New Haven Health System’s Brain Health Initiative aiming to continue transforming our clinical services from the traditional 'reactive' approach (treating disease) to a proactive approach (early disease recognition and prevention).  

We provide a highly collaborative, supportive, and mentored environment that promotes specialists to pursue career growth within their specific area of interest. Rank will be based on education and experience. We anticipate faculty applicants to be dedicated to the education of the next generation of neurologists. This position offers applicants an exciting opportunity for individual programmatic development and goal discovery across varied academic interests. 

We seek a motivated, experienced academic physician with: 1) expertise in the care of adult general neurology alone or in conjunction with a subspecialty, 2) leadership skills, 3) interest in teaching, 4) participation in clinical trials. Practice location will be in New Haven County.  

Candidates must have an MD or equivalent and be board certified/board eligible in Neurology.  Applicants must meet the criteria for medical licensure in the State of Connecticut. Faculty rank will be based on experience.
