Current Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 7:30am – 3:00pm. (Varies, 18 hours max) Days and hours of employment may change depending on District needs.
Salary Range: 13
Salary: $1,662.60 – $2,131.44 monthly – Successful candidate will start at step 1 except in cases where District deems appropriate. This is a Categorically Funded position. Continuation of this position is contingent upon continued funding.

Basic Function
Under the direction of an administrator or manager, assists in planning and preparing meals for the Child Development Center; assists with maintaining inventory and procuring of supplies to ensure proper nutritional meals are served to children during classroom and daycare activities.
Representative Duties
- Prepares meals (breakfast, lunch, and afternoon and/or early evening supplements), for the children in the Child Development Center. E
- Assists in the planning, preparation, and storage of foods in accordance with guidelines set by the State Nutrition Program. E
- Maintains a safe and healthy workplace in accordance with proper Health Department Regulations, Occupation Safety standards, and College prepared standards in the operation of the food services program of the Child Development Center. E
- Records specialized information for documentation purposes. E
- Assists in shopping for necessary supplies for use in the meal program. E
- Performs a variety of clerical and administrative responsibilities in support of the departments day-to-day activities and/or operations utilizing a variety of communication modalities including but not limited to answers and responds to phone calls, emails, text messages, and chat platforms; opens, screens, and distributes mail and correspondence; photocopies documents and requests duplication services; ensures maintenance and repairs of assigned work areas, facilities, or equipment; enters various requests for services from IT, Facilities, and Maintenance; contacts vendors for equipment service, when needed; follows-up with vendors to ensure satisfactory completion of requests; may perform simple repairs or maintenance to standard office equipment. E

Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- District and college policies, procedures, rules, and regulations related to the area of assignment.
- Federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations and District policies and practices pertinent to the area of responsibility.
- California Education Code and Title V as it relates to the area of assignment.
- Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
- Childcare Food Program health, safety, and nutrition standards.
- Basic food preparation, health, and safety procedures for the kitchen.
- Methods, procedures and techniques for preparation, heating, and serving large quantities of food.
- Sanitation, hygiene, and safety practices and procedures in operation of a food service program.
- Standard cafeteria appliances and equipment.
- Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA).
- Methods and procedures for requisitioning, receiving, and storing food and supplies.
- Effective communication skills both verbally and in writing.
- Computer software programs, applications, databases, and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems; computer hardware and peripheral equipment related to the area of the assignment.
- Record-keeping, filing, file sharing, and filing system methods and techniques.
- Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
- Effective communication techniques and interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
- Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) related to the scope and area of the assignment.
Ability to:
- Perform the essential responsibilities of the position.

- Exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive and complex issues and situations.

- Utilize computer software programs, applications, and databases; computer hardware and peripheral equipment related to the area of assignment.
- Establish and maintain effective and cooperative relationships with those encountered during the course of work.
Education and Experience
- High school graduate or General Educational Development (GED); AND
- Six (6) + months of food service experience.
- Or, any combination of education and experience which would provide the required qualifications for the position.
License Certificates/Credentials
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Serv Safe Certification.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid driver license.
- May be required to travel for various off-site meetings, trainings, conferences, and or events in support of the overall objective of the position.
Desired Qualifications
- One (1) year of experience in food preparation and service.
- Food Handlers Training/Serve Safe
- Serve Safe Certificate
Working Conditions
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit or stand for extended periods of time; talk or hear, in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel, operate personal computers and other standard office equipment; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, use of both eyes, ability to distinguish basic shades and colors and the ability to adjust focus. Employees are frequently required to walk/stand for extended periods of time; hear and speak; lift, carry, push, or pull moderately heavy trays, carts and supplies weighing approximately 25 pounds, and with assistance up to approximately 50 pounds; reach overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally; bend at the waist, kneel or crouch; use sight to monitor food quality and quantity and count money.
MENTAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this class, incumbents are regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data; use math and mathematical reasoning; analyze and solve problems; learn and apply new information and skills; perform highly detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks; and interact with District, students, vendors and others encountered in the course of work, some of whom are dissatisfied or abusive.
