Job Details
Job Title Clerk, Post Office Essential Job Functions- Receives, sorts, and distributes incoming mail and packages to campus departments and student mailboxes.
- Processes outgoing institutional mail through appropriate carriers (e.g., USPS, FedEx, UPS), ensuring proper labeling, postage, and documentation.
- Assist customers with inquiries regarding mail delivery, lost packages, shipping options, and rates.
- Operates postage meters, mail sorters, barcode scanners, and other mail equipment.
- Maintains shipment logs, signature receipts, and tracking information for accountable mail and packages.
- Receives bulk shipments; verifies delivery manifests against institutional purchase documentation.
- Ensure secure handling of confidential and restricted materials in accordance with institutional and postal regulations.
- Issues student mailbox keys or access credentials; maintains records for mailbox assignments and fees (if applicable).
- Assists with inventory management of mailing supplies (boxes, envelopes, tape, labels, and postage).
- Performs daily mailroom opening and closing procedures, including security checks and equipment shutdown.
- Delivers inter-office mail to designated buildings when assigned.
- Supports departmental reporting, billing, and adjustments for postage and shipping costs.
- Other related duties, as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One (1) year of related experience.
- Knowledge of basic clerical practices, filing systems, recordkeeping, and inventory.
- Knowledge of safety procedures related to heavy lifting, transport carts, and storage.
- Skilled in customer service and interpersonal communication.
- Skilled in time management and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Skilled in operating postage machines, scanners, sorting equipment, and office software (e.g., Excel, mail tracking systems).

- Ability to apply postal rules and fees accurately and efficiently.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, physically active environment.
