Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job:
The Department of Physical Therapy invites applications for two 12-month full-time Clinical faculty positions at the rank of Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor for our pre-accreditation status Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program. These core faculty positions will require teaching, advisement, scholarship and service responsibilities. The appointments can begin as early as Fall 2025.
Educational Requirements for the Position:
Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT). Applicants must have earned a Doctorate in Physical Therapy, and hold an active, unencumbered PT license in any United States jurisdiction and is in compliance with the practice act in Texas. Preferred Qualifications: American Board of Physical Therapy Specialists (ABPTS) certified specialization. An academic doctoral degree in physical therapy, rehabilitation or other health related professions (PhD, DSc, EdD or equivalent).
Experience Required for the Position:
The applicant must have full-time post-licensure clinical practice experience with demonstrated expertise in one or more areas of physical therapy practice. Evidence of teaching ability and commitment to physical therapy education is required.
Other Requirements for the Position:
Preferred Qualifications: American Board of Physical Therapy Specialists (ABPTS). Academic doctoral degree (PhD, DSc, ScD, EdD, or equivalent). Previous experience teaching in a physical therapy education program. Experience with curriculum development and assessment. Evidence of professional development activities and continuing education. Knowledge of physical therapy accreditation standards and educational best practices. Experience with clinical research or evidence-based practice initiatives. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Location: The proposed Doctor of Physical Therapy Program will be housed in Conroe, Texas on SHSU’s Medical and Health Professions Campus, and will matriculate students in August 2027. In 2021, SHSU received tuition revenue bond funding to build an 80,000 square foot Health Professions Building. The new building, estimated to open in February 2026, will house four academic programs including the MS in Athletic Training, MS in Dietetics, MS in Physician Assistant Studies (proposed), and Doctor of Physical Therapy (proposed). Conroe, Texas is in Montgomery County about 40 miles north of Houston, the 4th largest city in the U.S. The Houston Medical Center, located near downtown Houston, is the world’s largest medical complex. The SHSU Medical and Health Professions campus is approximately 10 miles north of the “Medical Center of the North,” which is in The Woodlands/Spring area. SHSU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine, which recently received Accreditation with Exceptional Outcomes by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA), is also located on the same campus.
