Clinical Assistant/Associate/Professor in Sport Law
The Sport Management program at the University of Michigan School of Kinesiology invites applications for a non-tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Clinical Assistant, Clinical Associate Professor, or Clinical Professor, ideally commencing in August 2026. This nine-month appointment is primarily focused on teaching (75%) with additional duties in administration, service, and scholarship (25%). The successful candidate will be expected to teach three sport management courses per semester (fall and winter terms), with a focus on sport law.
This position offers an opportunity to make a significant impact on the Sport Management program by preparing students for success in the dynamic sports industry. Key duties include developing and delivering engaging course content that meets the rigorous academic standards of the Sport Management program. The role involves teaching sport law and related courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate will integrate current industry trends and practices into the curriculum to provide students with practical and up-to-date knowledge.
Beyond instructional duties, the role requires participation in program and school meetings, service activities, relevant professional development, and engagement in scholarly activities. The successful candidate is expected to foster partnerships with local and national sport organizations to enhance experiential learning and internship opportunities for students. Additionally, the successful candidate is expected to be involved with student organizations, including the Michigan Sports Law Group and the Michigan Sports Business Conference, among others. Administrative responsibilities will be based on program needs, as well as the candidate's expertise and prior experience.
A competitive salary will be offered, commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications.
Required Qualifications:
- A law degree (J.D.)
- At least three years of professional experience in law
- Ability to contribute to a positive workplace culture aligned with the school's core values
Desired Qualifications:
- Professional experience in sport law
- Knowledge of current legal issues in the sport industry
- Experience teaching at the college level
- A network of contacts within the sport industry
