Brief Summary of Work for this Position:

The Clinical Research Program, part of the School of Nursing (SON), within the College Health and Human Services at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW), seeks an outstanding faculty member for a full-time nine-month non-tenure track position at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor beginning August 2026.

Clinical Track Faculty are initially hired on a contract of up to 5 years that is renewable based on performance. Clinical Track Faculty are eligible for promotion to higher clinical track ranks. The primary teaching responsibilities will be assigned across undergraduate and graduate Clinical Research (non-nursing) programs. In addition, Clinical Track Faculty have expectations related to advising/mentoring students, research/scholarship, performing professional and community service and outreach, and contributing to ongoing program evaluation and improvement. The successful candidate will be expected to relocate to North Carolina and maintain an in-person campus presence as part of the School of Nursing faculty.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • A Doctoral degree in a life science or health care related field or other terminal degree (e.g., DPH, DNP, DVM, EdD, JD, MD, PharmD, PhD, etc.) with relevant experience in medical therapeutic development, clinical research, or health care at time of application.
  • Candidates must have experience working on medical therapeutic product development, clinical studies, regulatory affairs, data management, safety, business development, approval of medical therapies, or other related clinical research experience.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

Preference will be given to candidates with:

  • Experience in teaching (i.e., academic or professional development) and clinical research practice.
  • Experience advising, mentoring, or coaching academic honors, capstone, thesis, or work-based projects.
  • Experience with AI use in educational and professional settings

Primary Function of Organizational Unit:

The School of Nursing (SON) within the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) has an outstanding legacy of serving the people of southeastern North Carolina through education, research, scholarship, and service. The SON is dedicated to excellence in the development of healthcare professionals through in-depth education, professional partnerships, applied research, regional engagement, and community outreach and impact. Nursing programs in the SON are CCNE accredited and the SON has been recognized by the National League of Nursing as a Center of Excellence in Nursing Education, specifically in the area of promoting the pedagogical expertise of faculty. The SON is located in McNeill Hall, a state-of-the-art facility that includes offices, classrooms, a large lecture hall, computer laboratories, student success areas and learning commons, and the Simulation Learning Center. The Simulation Learning Center uses high, medium, and low-fidelity human patient simulators as teaching and learning tools for nursing education. Through the use of simulation, we strive to create a realistic environment and a powerful learning experience that promotes the cognitive, affective, physical, and social development of the student as well as the incorporation of inter-professional collaborative experiences for students across the degree programs in the College.

The SON offers the following degree and certificate programs:

Nursing

  • BS in Nursing (Prelicensure, RN-BSN, Accelerated)
  • MS in Nursing (Nurse Educator)
  • Nurse Educator Certificate
  • DNP
    • BSN to DNP (Family Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Adult-Gero Nurse Practitioner)
    • MSN to DNP (Nurse Executive Leadership and Post-APRN concentrations)

Clinical Research

  • BS in Clinical Research
  • Post- Baccalaureate Certificate in Clinical Research Operations
  • MS in Clinical Research and Product Development

Over 2,400 students are enrolled in programs within the SON. The SON has over 85 full-time faculty and employs over 60 part-time faculty per semester.

College/School Information:

The College of Health and Human Services was created in July 2010 to provide UNCW with a new mechanism to link and focus its health-related research, professional continuing education, and health knowledge dissemination and application. In the formative stage of development, the CHHS is currently home to three professional schools: School of Health and Applied Human Sciences, School of Nursing, and School of Social Work.
