About the Department

School of Social Work

The School of Social Work offers dynamic programs in Atlanta, Georgia, and has a strong, research-driven faculty and a robust and impressive record of external funding. The School offers the BSW program (in-person and online) and the MSW program (full-time in-person, part-time online, and Advanced Standing in-person and online). Both programs are fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education through 2028. The School houses Georgia’s Title IV-E Public Child Welfare Education Program, which oversees seven social work programs that participate in Title IV-E in Georgia. The Professional Excellence Program, which is also housed in the School, provides innovative trauma-informed training and development opportunities to professionals serving children and families, including child welfare, education, healthcare, judicial, and community programs.

Position Description

The Georgia State University (GSU) School of Social Work invites applications and nominations for two non-tenure track positions as Clinical Assistant Professor or Lecturer starting Fall 2025. Teaching (for both Clinical Assistant Professor and Lecturer) and research (for Clinical Assistant Professor) areas of particular interest include clinical content focusing on mental health and/or health. These full-time positions offer a unique opportunity to join a dynamic, collegial community that values collaboration, teamwork, and interdisciplinary engagement.

These positions are located on the Atlanta campus of Georgia State University and require in-person, on-campus-based work. The Andrew Young School maintains a flexible work environment.

Required Experience

Clinical Assistant Professor - A minimum of two years of clinically focused post-MSW practice experience is required.

Lecturer – The successful candidate will bring experience in teaching and have a record of social work practice experiences in clinical settings.

Required Education

Clinical Assistant Professor - Applicants must hold a Master of Social Work (MSW) and a doctorate in social work or a closely related field by the time of appointment.

Lecturer - Applicants must hold a Master of Social Work (MSW), and (LCSW)-Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience

Clinical Assistant Professor – Preferred Qualifications and Experience: The ideal candidate will bring experience in teaching and have a demonstrated research capacity to conduct impactful practice research that will inform the social work profession, and an ability to develop and teach online courses. (LCSW)-Licensed Clinical Social Worker and importantly, applicants should show a clear ability to contribute to the Georgia State University Strategic Plan (https://strategic.gsu.edu/), with a commitment to community engagement and outreach as integral components of their work.

Lecturer – Preferred Qualifications and Experience: At least five years of clinically focused post-MSW practice experience and familiarity and ability to develop and teach online courses are preferred. Importantly, applicants should show a clear ability to contribute to the Georgia State University Strategic Plan (https://strategic.gsu.edu/), with a commitment to community engagement and outreach as integral components of their work.
