Position Summary

The Department of Curriculum & Instruction in the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences at the University of Idaho seeks applications for a non-tenure track, assistant, associate, or full clinical professor in Literacy with an emphasis in the Science of Reading to work from either the Moscow campus or Coeur d’Alene campus. Rank is negotiable based on how the candidate meets the criteria outlined in the Department’s bylaws. The successful candidate will contribute to the preparation of teacher candidates by teaching undergraduate and/or graduate literacy courses, supervising field placements, and working collaboratively with K–12 school partners. This position requires teaching a minimum of 9 credits per semester (fall & spring), participation in recruitment and departmental initiatives, and representing the program at community and professional events.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate literacy courses with emphasis on the Science of Reading.
  • Mentor teacher candidates in evidence-based literacy instruction and assessment.
  • Contribute to program development and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Collaborate with faculty, K–12 personnel, and state-wide partners on literacy initiatives.
  • Participate in recruitment, advising, and department/college meetings.
  • Represent the program at professional, university, and community events.

Scholarship & Creative Activity: 5%
Outreach & Extension: 25%
University Service & Leadership: 5%

Minimum Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (Ed.S, EdD, or PhD) in literacy, reading education, or closely related field
  • A minimum of three (3) years of K–8 classroom teaching with experience in reading instruction.
  • Experience teaching literacy aligned with the Science of Reading.
  • Experience with structured literacy practices and their application in classrooms.
  • Experience collaborating with university faculty, K–12 personnel, and community stakeholders.
  • Experience teaching courses using both face-to-face and online platforms.
  • Experience designing curriculum and instruction that aligns with current state and national literacy standards.
  • Experience producing professional development training in literacy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching and mentoring pre-service teachers in reading instruction.
  • Familiarity with science-based literacy assessments and progress monitoring tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate technology into literacy instruction.
  • Experience working with students with reading disabilities, including dyslexia.
  • Record of building collaborative partnerships with schools, districts, or community organizations.
