Clinical Research Fellow in Oncology (Early Phase Clinical Trials)

About the role

This appointment is an excellent opportunity for clinicians in any speciality at any stage of their career to gain experience of clinical research in a leading research organisation, as well as those aiming for a career in Medical or Clinical Oncology, Experimental Medicine or Pharmaceutical Medicine to advance within a supportive environment. The Clinical Research Fellow will work in the Division of Cancer based at the Hammersmith Hospital Campus with a group of clinicians and scientists engaged in evaluating novel therapeutics for cancer treatment.

What you would be doing

The primary role of the post holder is to provide medical support for Early Phase Clinical Trials in Cancer, including advanced therapies such as cell and gene therapies, anti-cancer immunotherapy and intra-tumoural therapeutics. The studies will be delivered within the Oncology Department at Imperial College NHS Trust as part of the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Imperial BRC newly funded Oncology and Haematology Translational Research Centre and within the NIHR Imperial Clinical Research Facility (ICRF). The post holder will work directly with experienced senior researchers supporting the implementation of patient-based clinical trials across the earliest phases of clinical development (phase IA, IB and II) in an established clinical academic environment that benefits from both on-site acute medical services and experienced administrative support. The postholder will also help to develop risk assessments and risk mitigation strategies for new early phase studies. The postholder will also attend regular oncology clinics at the Hammersmith Site (Phase I clinics) to facilitate recruitment to clinical studies and gain further experience in the multi-disciplinary management of cancer patients.

The activity within the Unit will support training in drug development, study design, pharmacovigilance, project management, and conduct of clinical trials, as well as regulatory aspects of clinical experimentation. Access to an ePortfolio will be facilitated for post holders not in higher specialist training.

The ICRF hosts the Imperial College Masters course in Clinical Research, and there are a number of relevant lectures, teaching workshops and modules that the post holder may attend if time allows.
