General Duties

Under supervision, performs miscellaneous clerical, administrative, research or other work related to the operation of a College or other unit where such work is required on a part-time basis or for a period of limited duration. There is one Assignment Level for this position. All personnel perform related work. This specification describes typical assignments; related duties may be assigned as needed. Maximum tenure for any employee in this hourly position is 1040 hours per year. Performs routine clerical work; may answer and attend to telephone calls; maintain records, operate office machines (such as copier), sort and distribute mail, issue keys and identity cards, act as messenger, and perform related tasks as required. Types letters, memoranda, charts, and similar materials. Acts as cashier. Assists in statistical or research activities. May collect and compile data, code data for computer entry, perform data entry, and run computer reports. Performs clerical library work, such as sorting and shelving books, performing data entry into library systems, or binding books and periodicals. Assists in instructional programs, including tutoring and assisting students in areas such as reading and mathematics. May assist in speech and hearing therapy, provide musical accompaniment, and/or distribute and collect physical education equipment. Enters and maintains departmental records such as inventory control records, rosters, directories, and schedules. May operate computers, computer software, and other electronic equipment in performing assigned tasks.

Campus Specific Information

CUNY Central Office is seeking College Assistants to work in various departments on its administrative campus. Under supervision, the incumbent will perform miscellaneous clerical, administrative, research or other work related to the departmental operations. Employees in the College Assistant title work up to 20 hours per week, and 1,040 per fiscal year. Duties can include but are not limited to: Providing general administrative support, such as reception coverage, scheduling, screening visitors and calls, taking detailed messages and relaying to appropriate parties, filing, organizing, and scanning documents, and maintaining office and web accounts. Assisting with statistical or research activities which can include collecting and compiling data, coding data for computer entry, performing data entry, and running computer reports. Entering and maintaining departmental records such as inventory control records, rosters, directories, and schedules. Responding to routine questions and requests from clients, students, and staff. Drafting communications, letters, or memoranda; assisting with initiatives, projects, and/or event planning. Using standard computer software, other office technology, and operating office equipment (such as scanners, faxes, and copiers) to perform related duties. Performing all other related duties as assigned. NOTE: Until further notice, this position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule.

Minimum Qualifications

Must demonstrate sufficient skills to perform the duties of the assigned tasks.

Other Qualifications

Functional experience utilizing Excel and other standard Microsoft Office applications. Strong organizational and follow-through skills. Customer focused with ability to interact and work cooperatively and collaboratively on a team to assist diverse internal and external constituencies.

Compensation

This is a part-time position of up to 20 hours per week. Evening hours may be needed to carry out normal business operations. Hourly rate: $15.61 to $25.51; commensurate with education and work experience. *Compensation is based on department budget.
