Job Summary:

This 1.0 FTE/0.80 cFTE position for Assistant/Associate Professor will serve within the Section of Hematology, Oncology, and Bone Marrow Transplantation-Cellular Therapeutics (BMT-CT), providing both direct clinical care and strategic leadership for pediatric hematology/oncology services at Children's Hospital Colorado, Colorado Springs (COS). This faculty member will independently manage and supervise all CCBD inpatient and outpatient services, including the COS infusion center, while also fulfilling key responsibilities of the Colorado Springs Medical Director for Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. In this dual role, the position partners closely with nursing, operational leadership, the CHCO-COS Chief Medical Officer, and colleagues on the Anschutz Campus to ensure safe, high-quality, efficient, and patient- and family-centered care across all clinical settings. The faculty member may also provide periodic outpatient coverage at the CCBD South Campus (Highlands Ranch) based on clinical volumes and institutional needs.

As Medical Director, the faculty member provides strategic and operational oversight for all hematology and oncology services in Colorado Springs. The role collaborates broadly with physician leaders across Southern Colorado; CCBD Section leadership; and institutional teams in Quality and Patient Safety, Clinical Effectiveness, Patient and Family Experience, Pharmacy, Informatics, and Business Operations. The Medical Director serves as a champion for initiatives that strengthen clinical operations, quality, safety, and patient and provider experience, and supports continued growth of pediatric hematology, oncology, and related services throughout the region.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage inpatient, outpatient, and infusion care for pediatric CCBD and non-CCBD conditions; provide emergency care and triage/transfer.
  • Write and execute all clinical orders including chemotherapy and blood products; supervise infusions and transfusions.
  • Perform lumbar punctures, bone marrow procedures, skin biopsies, and other clinically indicated procedures.
  • Collaborate with faculty and referring providers; provide education and resources for patients and families.
  • Participate in clinical research protocols and academic/QI initiatives.
  • Provide education for residents, fellows, APPs, nursing, and students.
  • Lead clinical operations, develop standards of care, and optimize staffing and workflows.
  • Ensure equitable call coverage and support seamless transitions across the CHCO system.
  • Lead quality and safety initiatives; respond to reports and grievances.
  • Champion high-quality documentation and partner with Informatics to optimize Epic.
  • Participate in leadership meetings, tumor boards, and regional forums; support regional partnerships.
  • Develop/review performance metrics; support cost containment and financial stewardship.
  • Participate in call coverage approximately every fourth week/weekend.
  • Perform other mission-related duties as assigned.

Work Location: Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Minimum Qualifications:

Assistant Professor

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO); must be board certified in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology after completion of an ACGME accredited pediatric Hematology/Oncology fellowship and maintenance of continuous certification without lapse
  • Active Colorado state license and DEA certification.
  • Current compliance with human subjects research certifications and requirements without lapse.
  • Minimum of 2 years of independent clinical experience in pediatric hematology/oncology with or without bone marrow transplant experience.
Associate Professor
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO); must be board certified/eligible in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and maintenance of continuous certification without lapse.
  • Active Colorado state license and DEA certification.
  • Current compliance with human subjects research certifications and requirements without lapse.
  • Minimum of 6 years of independent clinical experience in pediatric hematology/oncology with or without bone marrow transplant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 years of formal leadership experience
  • Experience managing Children's Oncology Group study protocols including clinical care coordination and study audits.
  • Familiarity with or fluency (preferred) in medical Spanish, meeting hospital criteria for language certification qualification.

Anticipated Pay Range:

Assistant Professor: $182,700 - $206,400
Associate Professor: $224,300 - $263,300
