Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Student Communications, the Communication & Social Manager leads social media strategy and supports branch-wide communication efforts for MSU Denver Enrollment & Student Affairs. This role uses analytics and audience insights to inform content strategy, improve engagement, and connect diverse student populations with resources, services, community, and key deadlines.
The Manager will be responsible for strategizing, managing and creating content for the Enrollment & Student Affairs social media channel(s); writing content and scheduling the weekly all-student newsletter, The Runner; updating webpages as needed; and identifying other creative means to share information and build engagement with current students.
The Manager is empowered and expected to continuously improve communication processes to reflect best practices. In particular, the Manager will work closely with the Director of Student Communications to develop thoughtful communication campaigns to connect students with resources, on-campus events, and essential information, while also promoting Enrollment & Student Affairs' services.

Duties/Responsibilities
- Manages, strategizes, leads content creation and analyzes metrics to expand social media efforts; and identifies and leverages new and creative ways to reach students and external audiences.
- Collaborates with Director of Student Communications to create and schedule a mobile-optimized, inclusive and error-free weekly newsletter for all students.
- Leverages writing skills and adheres to the branch tone and style guide to write copy across multiple platforms, including social media, email, newsletters, and other platforms.
- Implements data-informed strategies and opportunities, including A/B testing, varied subject lines, etc., to continuously improve metrics and increase engagement in the weekly student newsletter.
- Cross trains Enrollment and Student Affairs social media content owners (students and staff) on strategy, tools and best practices to ensure consistency and effectiveness across channels.
- Attends on-campus signature events to connect with students and to identify content opportunities.
- Reviews and maintains the shared student communications inbox for request submissions to the all-student newsletter.
- Ensures ADA compliance and the maintenance of MSU Denver's brand identity through all activities.
- Highlight achievements, sharing high-impact numbers to branch Leadership, Student Affairs' annual report highlights, and other outlets.
- Continuously improves processes and plans to adapt to changing circumstances and uphold best practices, especially around inclusiveness for diverse audiences.
- Oversees the Student Affairs website's content, organization, structure and ongoing maintenance.
Other duties, including:
- Attends on-campus events and assists with annual projects and events as needed.
- Potentially monitors social media channels during crises, reporting findings to the Director of Student Communications.
- May supervise a team of student employees.
- The Student Affairs operations team shares ownership of our office's day-to-day operations and coverage. Time spent covering the front desk and assisting guests is a team expectation.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, business, journalism or related field
- Excellent writing and editing skills to produce compelling, error-free copy
- At least one year of professional work experience managing social media for an organization or brand
- Proven ability to tailor communication methods to a wide range of diverse subjects and audiences. Experience crafting engaging content.
- A high level of professionalism, discretion, adaptability, and collaborative skills.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using CRMs, such as Salesforce Marketing Cloud and Word Press
- Experience using social media analytics tools, such as Meta Business Suite, Later Social; and social media platforms, Instagram and LinkedIn
- Graphic design experience, including Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud
- Confidence using Microsoft 365 Suite, including Teams, OneNote, Outlook, SharePoint
- Experience in a higher education setting or other complex organization
Work Hours
- Full-time, 40 hours per week, Exempt
- Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm, 40 hours per week
- Evenings and Weekend Work: As needed, but rare
- Hybrid schedule (on-campus and remote) available for this position.
- Travel: Rarely
Salary for Announcement
We anticipate the qualified candidate to be placed between $52,934 - $62,000. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
The above salary range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
