Computer Information Science Faculty

Position Summary

The faculty member shall be responsible for the following: teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the area dean; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in their regular teaching field; continuing professional development; utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance including accreditation and student co-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of a full-time faculty member.

The Computer Information Science (CIS) program at Folsom Lake College offers a comprehensive foundation in the principles and applications of computing and technology. Students gain practical programming and software development skills and are exposed to emerging cybersecurity, data science, and network design trends. The program integrates theoretical concepts with hands-on experience, fostering proficiency in problem-solving, critical thinking, and technological innovation. Designed to serve diverse career pathways, the CIS program prepares students for IT and software development roles or further academic pursuits in computer science and related fields.

To support existing academic programs and best utilize the candidate's areas of expertise, the instructional assignment may encompass teaching across all levels of the discipline, as appropriate. The assignment may involve new program development and stewardship in emerging and/or innovative area of computing.

Position Salary Information:
Initial maximum salary placement is based on academic degree, upper/graduate level units earned, and/or related professional occupational experience per the Los Rios College Federation of Teachers Contract(the initial maximum placement is Class V, Step 8).   • CISP 300 - Algorithm Design/Problem Solving
  • CISP 310 - Computer Architecture and Organization
  • CISP 360 - Introduction to Structured Programming
  • CISS 310 - Network Security Fundamentals
  • CISP 430 - Data Structures
  • CISD 353 - Data Science II
  • CISP 440 - Discrete Structures for Computer Science
  • CISP 407 - Programming in Python
  • CISN 304 - Networking Technologies

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Masters in computer science or computer engineering OR Bachelors in either of the above ANDMasters in mathematics, cybernetics, business administration, accounting or engineering OR Bachelors in engineering ANDMasters in cybernetics, engineering, mathematics, or business administration OR Bachelors in mathematics ANDMasters in cybernetics, engineering, mathematics, or business administration OR Bachelors degree in any of the above ANDA masters degree in information science, computer information systems, or information systems ORthe equivalent* (NOTE: Courses in the use of computer programs for application to a particular discipline may be classified for minimum qualifications purposes, under the discipline of the application.)
  2. All degrees must be from an accredited institution completed by August 20, 2026.
  3. Minimum Qualification Requirements:

  • Degree titles must match the stated qualifications exactly (word-for-word).
  • If the degree title differs, or if it contains added, missing, or rearranged words, applicants mustsubmit a completed Equivalency Determination Request Form for the application to be considered. See the Equivalency Determination Process webpage for details.
    + Example: If a masters in Psychology is required but the transcript lists Counseling Psychology and that title is not listed in the Minimum Qualifications, an Equivalency Determination Request Form must be submitted.
  • Previously granted equivalencies mustbe attached for verification. Email hr-recruitment@losrios.edu for a replacement copy.

Transcript Requirements:

  • Transcripts must be from an accredited U.S. institutions or approved foreign evaluation agency.
  • Foreign transcript evaluations must be issued by an AICE (Association of International Credential Evaluation, Inc.) or NACES (National Association of Credential Evaluation Services) member agency. See the Foreign Transcript Evaluation webpage for details.
  • Transcripts mustclearly identify the degree(s) being used to meet the Minimum Qualifications.
  • If more than one degree is required to meet the Minimum Qualifications (e.g., a bachelors and a masters), transcripts for each degree must be included.
  • Transcripts must show the degree title and indicate whether each degree is completed or in progress.
  • If the degree is in progress, the application must state, the month and year the degree is expected to be attained.

Additional Instructions:

  • Only information listed on the application and transcripts will be used to verify Minimum Qualifications.
  • Applications stating “see resume”will be disqualified.
