Minimum Qualifications: A Master’s degree in Human/Youth Development, Sociology, Education, Agriculture, Family & Consumer Sciences, Recreation, or related area. A Bachelor’s degree is acceptable for a Public Service Provisional appointment. See Additional Requirements below.
Position Summary: This faculty role is responsible for 4-H Youth Development programming in Cook County. It provides educational opportunities for youth in 4-H club meetings, coordinating local activities, and preparing youth for project and judging events. Provides leadership for volunteers, Para-professionals, and teen leaders in delivering 4-H and Youth programs. Utilizes the expertise of and works closely with advisory groups, community leaders, public officials, and representatives of intended audiences to analyze data, identify needs, and assist in developing educational programs. Utilizes current research data and information on emerging issues in program development and teaching. Develops a plan of work that is equitable in meeting the varied socio-economic needs of the county. Develops and conducts relevant interdisciplinary programs with other staff members based on critical issues. Collaborates with other agencies and community groups to plan and implement programs. Conducts promotional efforts to expand the public’s view of extension programming. Identify, recruit, train, and help supervise 4-H volunteers in planning, teaching, and evaluating Cooperative Extension 4-H programs. Assists interested volunteers in the successful completion of the 4-H Chaperone Training. Manage Multiple programs that may receive leadership from Volunteers such as the Archery Team, Shotgun Team, Horse Club, BB Team, and Livestock Show Teams. Implements the CAES Civil Rights/Equal Opportunity plan and ensures that clientele understand that UGA Extension offers its educational programs, assistance, and materials to all people without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation or protected veteran status. Make reports to appropriate clientele, staff members, Board of Education, Board of Commissioners, and public officials through mass media (social media, County websites, etc.) personal contacts, and/or group meetings. Submits accurate and complete reports in a timely manner in GA Counts, 4-H enrollment, and the District Office. Demonstrates personal interest and involvement in the community by participating in and supporting civic/community activities/organizations and networking with community leaders. Regularly participates in staff conferences. Maintains office inventory of office supplies and materials as needed to support the 4-H program. Assists with day-to-day operations of Cooperative Extension county office by answering the phone, greeting visitors, filing 4-H documents, etc. as needed. Other duties as assigned by the County Coordinator, SW District 4-H Program Development Coordinator, SW District Director, and other State 4-H Faculty. This position requires frequent night meetings, some weekend work, and attendance at out-of-county meetings. A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable private vehicle for official duty travel are required. Reimbursement for business travel will be provided. Transportation of others including 4-H Youth and Adult Clientele is also a common and necessary function of the job. 4-H competitions, overnight camps, and other events are conducted at district and state levels and necessitate travel and transport of participants. Will occasionally work extended hours (past eight hour work day and forty hour work week), including some nights and weekends.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies: Knowledge of 4-H programming is preferred. Computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office suite. Ability to speak to/teach large groups of children. Ability to organize and carry out activities and programming for youth. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with county, district, and state staff, local government employees, and clientele. Show high standards of professionalism in personal contacts, appearance, and work habits. Ability to express thoughts clearly and concisely through written and verbal communication. Ability to work as a team member and engage with groups and committees. Ability to design, coordinate, and teach educational programs to meet community needs. Skills in leadership and management.
Physical Demands: Some degree of physical activity, including lifting, is required to conduct programs (e.g., handling animals, supplies, and demonstration materials, audio/visual equipment, etc.) Some standing and/or sitting for various lengths of time. Ability to withstand various seasonal weather conditions for outside activities.
