Accessibility & Disability Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY:
Housed in the Division of Student Affairs and supervised by the Director of Wellness and Prevention, the Accessibility & Disability (A&D) Coordinator provides support, resources, and services to students with accessibility and disability needs. This position ensures appropriate accommodations, maintains compliance with institutional and federal guidelines, coordinates assistive technology, and collaborates with faculty, staff, and community partners. The Coordinator maintains documentation, performs data tracking, and assists in creating an inclusive and accessible campus environment.
PRIMARY DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Meets with students to discuss accessibility and disability needs;
- Manages student note takers and academic accommodations;
- Gathers and maintains appropriate documentation related to student diagnoses and accommodation requests;
- Provides faculty with Letters of Accommodation and serves as a liaison for student–faculty accommodation processes;
- Coordinates housing-related accommodations (e.g., private rooms, Emotional Support Animals, meal plan considerations);
- Conducts monthly assessments of campus accessibility features to ensure proper function and compliance;
- Maintains a current log of all students utilizing A&D services;
- Manages and updates records related to Emotional Support Animals, including annual agreements and yearly animal photos;
- Prepares an annual report outlining Accessibility & Disability Office utilization;
- Facilitates assistive technology tools and digital accessibility resources for students and faculty;
- Conducts monthly monitoring of accessibility areas on campus such as automatic doors and handicapped bathrooms and maintains an up-to-date log of ongoing maintenance needs.
SECONDARY DUTIES:
- Manages community partnerships, including The Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges and the Department of Rehabilitative Services;
- Participates in NABITA nonclinical suicide evaluations as needed;
- Attends Community of Practice meetings and relevant professional development activities;
- Performs additional duties consistent with the mission, vision, and values of RSU and the Division of Student Affairs.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, education, counseling, disability services, or a related field.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of assistive technology and digital accessibility tools;
- Experience working with students in an educational or disability-services setting;
- Experience with disability services, accessibility compliance, or case management;
- Familiarity with federal accessibility policies (ADA, Section 504).
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Ability to interact effectively through oral and written communication across diverse populations;
- Familiarity with accessible technology. For example, platforms such as JAWS;
- Strong organizational and documentation skills;
- Knowledge of accessibility trends affecting college students;
- Knowledge of personal computers, software, and office equipment.
REPORTS TO: Director of Wellness and Prevention
HOURS: 40 hours/week, Monday–Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM; some variation to meet student needs, campus events, or required accessibility assessments.
SUPERVISION GIVEN TO: As assigned (e.g., student workers such as note takers).
POSITION TYPE: Professional, Full-Time, FLSA Non-Exempt
