Coordinator of New Student Programs

Essential Job Duties:

If so, we invite you to join our team as the Coordinator of New Student Programs.
In this dynamic role, you will play a key part in shaping the first year experience for new undergraduate students at NC State. You'll provide leadership in the recruitment, training, and supervision of student leaders while supporting the planning and implementation of New Student and Family Orientation programs. Your work will directly impact student success, engagement, and sense of belonging from day one.
What You'll Do:
Student Staff Recruitment, Training & Supervision
- Lead the recruitment, selection, and evaluation of New Student Programs student staff
- Co-supervise Orientation student staff, including graduate students
- Coordinate all student employee training periods, including a spring training course
- Develop learning outcomes and design a comprehensive week-long summer training experience
Curriculum Design & Instruction
- Design and implement an engaging spring training curriculum
- Serve as the lead instructor for USC 223: NSP Student Leader Development
- Plan and facilitate a student leader retreat in collaboration with the Assistant Director
Orientation Program Development & Implementation
- Develop and implement key components of New Student and Family Orientation programs for first-year and transfer students and their families
- Collaborate closely with the Assistant Director to execute high-quality Orientation experiences
Collaboration & Campus Partnerships
- Partner with campus colleagues to enhance student leader training and Orientation programs
- Build strong working relationships across departments to support student transition initiatives
Communication & Project Coordination
- Collaborate with the Assistant Director on communications related to student leader initiatives
- Help coordinate projects to ensure smooth execution and continuous improvement
As a Member of the New Student Programs Team:
You'll contribute to a shared mission of supporting student transition and success by:
- Assisting with major university initiatives such as admitted and confirmed student events, Welcome Weeks programs, and on-going transition programming
- Providing general office customer service (phone, email, and text support)
- Engaging in ongoing program assessment and continuous improvement efforts
- Serving as a liaison to campus committees and representing the office at regional or national conferences
- Supporting programs that may require evening and weekend hours, with extended hours during peak seasons
- Contributing to additional projects aligned with departmental priorities

Minimum Experience/Education:
- Master's degree in higher education, student affairs administration, or similar field
Required Qualifications:
- Demonstrated use of innovative ideas in leadership development and programming for college students
- Experience in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with fellow staff members and campus partners
- Demonstrated experience in supervising, selecting, and developing training curriculum for student staff
- Experience with the development and implementation of orientation activities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a highly collaborative team of professionals and student leaders
- Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent interpersonal communication, facilitation, and writing skills
- Theoretical and practical understanding of student development
