Job Summary

The Coordinator, Retention and Transition Programs supports the planning, coordination, implementation, and assessment of FGCU's retention and transition initiatives. Working under the direction of the Director, this position assists with the day-to-day operations of established programs-such as new student orientation, the university's summer bridge program, and family engagement efforts-while contributing to the development of new retention and transition focused programming.

The Coordinator supports program logistics, prepares materials and schedules, communicates with campus partners, assists with program delivery, and helps assess program effectiveness. This role works collaboratively to create organized, engaging experiences that promote student success, academic readiness, and connection to the university.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Assists in the planning, coordination, implementation, documentation, and assessment of retention and transition programs within the department's portfolio.
  • Supports day-to-day program operations by coordinating logistics, maintaining timelines, preparing materials, and assisting with event and program execution.
  • Contributes to the enhancement of existing programs and the development of new initiatives by researching best practices, drafting program components, and assisting with pilot efforts.
  • Collaborates with campus and community partners, including faculty, staff, and student leaders, to support aligned retention and transition programming.
  • Assists with the development and administration of program assessment tools; collects, compiles, and summarizes data to support program improvement.
  • Supports campus-wide initiatives that promote student engagement and persistence, including Weeks of Welcome, Eagle EXPO, and Say Yes to the Nest.
  • Assists with the recruitment, onboarding, training, scheduling, and day-to-day support of student employees and OPS staff involved in program delivery.
  • Responds to participant questions and concerns and assists with resolving routine program-related issues.
  • Maintains accurate program documentation, reports, and records in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Stays informed of trends and emerging practices in higher education retention and transition programs.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications for Coordinator, Retention & Transition Programs I:

  • This position requires either four years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Required Qualifications for Coordinator, Retention & Transition Programs II:

  • This position requires either six years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of or ability to learn student information systems such as Banner.
  • Knowledge of involvement theories and how they pertain to student success and persistence.
  • Knowledge of FERPA Regulations for handling student records.
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively in a team environment.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, apply, and explain policies and procedures.
  • Excellent organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work independently to complete assignments.
  • Ability to utilize data and information to make decisions and projections.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build strategic relations with colleagues, coworkers, constituents, and volunteers.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with staff, faculty, students, and the community in a service-oriented environment.
  • Ability to take initiative to plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations when numerous and competing demands are involved.
  • Ability to present to large groups.
  • Ability to develop and deliver training presentations and programs.
  • Ability to assess program needs and conceptualize new programs.
  • Ability to operate personal computers with proficiency and learn new applications and systems.
  • Proven ability to think strategically and approach challenges with creativity
  • Demonstrated track record of reliability, meeting goals, and holding oneself accountable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience working effectively across teams.

Coordinator, Retention & Transition Programs II: Pay Grade 15

Applicants will be evaluated for roles as either Coordinator, Retention & Transition Programs I or Coordinator, Retention & Transition Programs II based on their qualifications.
