Minimum Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Public Relations or a related field from an accredited college or university, or an equivalent combination of skills, education and experience.
- Excellent written communication skills, including grammar, spelling and punctuation.
License/Certification Required

Essential Job Functions
- Copy edit a variety of internal and external university communications - from news releases and remarks, to website content and App State points of pride - for grammar, spelling, punctuation, consistency, clarity and formatting.
- Ensure that university communications adhere to the guidelines of both the Associated Press Stylebook and in-house style rules.
- Fact-check university communications - names, titles, dates, locations, figures, etc. - to ensure the copy is accurate.
- Research and write engaging copy to be used across a wide variety of university communication channels, including news stories and releases, websites, social media, print publications, advertisements, etc.
- Assist in keeping the university's Writing Style Guide and UComm Writing Team resource materials up to date.
- Collaborate with the communications liaisons of App State's various campus units to gather, research and fact-check information included in university communications.
- Other duties, projects and special assignments as required.

- Strong fact-checking and research skills.
- Proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft Word, and familiarity with content management systems.
- Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Familiarity with writing style guides, particularly the Associated Press Stylebook.
- Familiarity with generative AI tools and AI prompt engineering.
- 1-2 years of copy editing experience.
- Bilingual communication skills, particularly in English and Spanish, are a plus.
