Digital Content Editor
Job Description Summary
WXPN, the public media service at the University of Pennsylvania, is looking for a Digital Content Editor who will play a central role in how WXPN shows up online and connects with listeners. The editor's work will help strengthen the station's relationship with Philadelphia's music community and bring our audience closer to the artists and stories that matter to them.
The Digital Content Editor will manage XPN's day-to-day web publishing and social media, covering Philadelphia's music scene and the national artists who matter to our audience. They will write daily stories, edit in-house and freelance contributions, work with photographers, create social content, and help produce our newsletters, while keeping XPN's voice consistent across platforms.
The ideal candidate is a versatile editor with a deep understanding of Philadelphia's music scene and strong digital publishing skills. They can turn around copy on deadline while also thinking strategically about long-term coverage goals and audience engagement. They shape and maintain our editorial calendar, identify emerging news and trends worth covering, and set priorities that align digital content with station programming. This means working closely with our Programming, Marketing, Membership, and Web teams to ensure our editorial work supports the station's broader mission.

Job Responsibilities
- Write, edit, and publish daily content about Philadelphia's music scene and national artists for XPN.org including news stories, concert recaps, artist features, the weekly top stories newsletter, and other timely music coverage. Ensure that all content maintains WXPN's voice while copy-editing, training, and setting editorial standards for the station's writing team.
- Collaborate with Programming, Marketing, Membership, and Web teams to create content that supports station-wide goals and maintains consistent messaging across platforms
- Edit content from in-house contributors and freelance writers, ensuring consistency of voice, and alignment with editorial standards.
- Coordinate with photographers, videographers, and other multimedia creators to assign coverage, manage workflow, and integrate visual content into digital publishing.
- Develop and maintain editorial calendar, identify emerging news and trends, and set coverage priorities that align with station programming and audience interests. Define best practices for hooks, CTAs, and simple A/B tests for social ad campaigns.

Qualifications
- At least 2-5 years writing and editing for a newsroom or equivalent digital outlet required; at least 2-5 years covering music and culture required. Philadelphia scene experience strongly preferred.
- At least 2-5 years using the Adobe Creative Cloud for photo, audio, and video editing required
- 2+ years platform-native social content creation and scheduling (Reddit, Facebook, Instagram) required. Experience with Google Analytics preferred
- Proven reliability with editorial calendars and daily deadlines required
- 1-3+ years of experience building and publishing content in WordPress, including embedding media (photo, audio, video), managing metadata, tags, and categories preferred

$55,000.00 - $64,285.00 Annual Rate
Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, and in alignment with salary ranges based on external market data for the job's level. Internal organization and peer data at Penn are also considered.
