Position Title: Costume Shop Work Room Supervisor

Description:
Reporting to the Costume Shop Manager, the Costume Shop Work Room Supervisor provides technical support for the productions of Faculty and Students in Dance and Theatre. This is a 12-month position, days and times vary depending on the production calendar during the academic year.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Creates and modifies costume patterns based on costume designs, constructs costumes, and performs alterations to ensure proper fit and design accuracy for departmental productions.
- Works with the Shop Manager to ensure smooth workflow through the costume shop by guiding student aides and over hire stitchers.
- Trains students in costume construction techniques and provides feedback on student work to aid in grading.
- Assesses materials, construction, build time and labor needs for student, guest, and faculty costume designs and provide feedback to Shop Manager.
- Along with costume design faculty and the Shop Manager, guides student designers in the inner workings of a professional costume shop.
- Collaborates with Drama and Dance faculty with season selection.
- Assists in student costume fittings in cooperation with the Shop Manager and the designer.
- Provides technical guidance and support to students on theatrical construction techniques including interpretation of renderings, draping and patterning, construction and stitching techniques.
- Supports Shop Manager in working with designers, over-hire stitchers, and student crews to ensure the timely completion of costumes for six main-stage drama productions and two faculty dance concerts.
- Attends production meetings which take place at 6pm on Mondays and Wednesdays throughout the semester.
- Attends Drama and Dance faculty meetings.
- Provides feedback on student work in order to assist the faculty in decisions regarding Bachelor of Fines Arts applicants.
- Splits coverage of dress rehearsals with the Shop Manager including managing dressers and wardrobe supervisors.
- Assists the Shop Manager in the organization and maintenance of supplies, equipment, and shop workspaces.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- At least 5 years of related experience.
- Experience in professional and/or educational costume shop.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced draping and patternmaking skills preferred.
- Tailoring and advanced stitching skills.
- Wardrobe experience and additional costume craft skills, such as dyeing, wig/hairstyling, millinery, etc.
- Teaching experience and the ability to work with college level students.
