Job Description:
Summary:
CLCE is AU’s hub for community outreach, volunteering and service-learning opportunities in Washington, DC. The Peer Mentor role supports the Community-Based Learning Program team in ways that advance “service-learning” programs, which aim to integrate community engagement into the academic experience.
Essential Functions:
- Support in classroom visits to promote CSLP as schedule allows.
- Attend and support a 2-hour Orientation for CSLP participants (2nd week of each semester).
- Attend and support a 1.5-hour Mid-Semester Reflection for CSLP participants.
- Attend and support a 1.5-hour Final Reflection for CSLP participants.
- Meet monthly with assigned cohort participants to facilitate guided progress checks.
- Answer participant questions and escalate issues to Graduate Assistant and Program Coordinator as necessary.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
- Part-time.
- 5 hours per week.
Salary Range:
- $18.00 per hour.
Required Education and Experience:
- Prior participation in CSLP.
- Proactive and growth-oriented mindset (enjoys building and strategizing).
- Strong with technology: Canva/adobe (graphic design), Asana (project management), Milanote (note-taking/strategic planning), Excel/Qualtrics (data management), etc.
- Outstanding communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
- Commitment to social justice issues, particularly with a JEDI (justice, equity, diversity, inclusion) framework.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Experience working with nonprofits preferred.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
- This position's time commitment is approximately 32 hours per semester.
- Peer Mentor Orientation is scheduled per the CLCE office.
