Job Overview

The laboratory of Dr. Susan Waltz in the Department of Cancer Biology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine currently has a postdoctoral fellow position open. The postdoctoral candidate will choose to work under the mentorship of one of 11 preceptors. Areas of research include:

  • Mechanistic studies of signaling pathways that regulate cancer cell survival and tumor growth in renal cancer (Maria Czyzyk-Krzeska)
  • Biophysics of membrane fusion and autophagy in the regulation of chemotherapy resistance (Jiajie Diao)
  • Tyrosine kinase signaling in the regulation of breast cancer stem cells and angiogenesis, autophagy in breast cancer, neural stem cells and neurodegenerative diseases (Jun-Lin Guan)
  • Understanding the interplay of oncogenic signaling and metabolism in the growth of gastrointestinal cancer (Krushna Patra)
  • Cervical cancer prevention (Leeya F. Pinder)
  • Investigating the role of GTP metabolism in cancer (Atsuo Sasaki)
  • Mechanisms controlling the promyelocytic leukemia gene tumor suppressive function (Pier P. Scaglioni)
  • Structural and functional aspects of aberrant TGFbeta signaling in cancer cachexia (Thomas B. Thompson)
  • Growth factor and receptor tyrosine kinase signaling in breast and prostate cancers (Susan Waltz)
  • Epigenetic and translation control in pancreas biology and cancers (Amanda Wasylishen)
  • Translational mechanisms of therapeutic resistance and biomarkers in cancer (Trisha Wise-Draper)

Essential Functions

  • Conduct research experiments in a particular field within the pre-determined research scope and methodology.
  • Gather and analyze data and develop new ideas that promote current research.
  • Prepare data summaries, reports, manuscripts and presentations of research results.
  • Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentation; may assist in grant writing.
  • Keep informed of developments in field to maintain and enhance professional expertise.
  • Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies, as needed.
  • May teach techniques to others, train, and mentor junior research staff.
  • Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities.
  • Play an active role in seeking career and research advice, both from the faculty supervisor and from other faculty members as well.

Required Education

  • Doctoral Degree in the appropriate field or discipline, or the recognized terminal degree.
  • PhD, MD, MD/PhD degree - must have degree by date of hire.

Required Experience

  • In-depth knowledge of specialized field, process or discipline.
  • May require experience with specialized software programs.
