Brief Description of Duties
The Culinary and Nutrition Education Assistant will support the College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability, and Environmental Sciences (CAUSES) by assisting with culinary and nutrition education programs that promote healthy eating and sustainable food practices. This role directly supports UDC's strategic priorities of student success, workforce development, and community engagement by providing accessible, high-quality culinary and nutrition education. Through outreach and experiential learning, the position helps UDC fulfill its commitment to sustainability, inclusion, and lifelong learning.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver culinary demonstrations and nutrition education using the CAUSES food truck and other community venues to promote healthy eating and sustainability. - 50%
- Assist in developing and teaching courses, workshops, and certificate programs in culinary sciences and nutrition that support academic and workforce goals. - 20%
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and industry partners to design and implement experiential learning opportunities that reflect best practices in culinary sciences and nutrition. - 10%
- Recruit and coordinate volunteers to support program delivery and evaluate their effectiveness in enhancing learning outcomes. - 10%
- Maintain compliance with food safety standards and ADA guidelines during all instructional and outreach activities. - 5%
- Perform other related duties as assigned to advance departmental and university goals. - 5%
Minimum Job Requirements
- Certificate, diploma, or degree in culinary arts, culinary science, nutrition, or a closely related field; or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in culinary arts or food service operations, including demonstrated knowledge of food safety standards.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse environment and communicate effectively with individuals of varied backgrounds.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks in community and academic settings.
