Overview

The Princeton University Art Museum seeks an exceptional Curatorial Associate/Assistant for a one-year part-time (20 hours/week) position with the possibility of extension. The curatorial associate/assistant will report to and support Ronni Baer, the Allen R. Adler, Class of 1967, Distinguished Curator and Lecturer, with the organization and realization of projects, exhibitions, and courses.

This is a temporary, casual hourly position with a desired start date of May 1.

Committed to advancing Princeton's teaching and research missions, the Art Museum also serves as a gateway to the University for visitors from around the world. The bold and welcoming new Princeton University Art Museum is open daily at the heart of Princeton's campus. Admission is free to all. The Museum also operates Art@Bainbridge, a gallery project at 158 Nassau Street; two Museum Stores; and Mosaic restaurant.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake library, archival, and image research
  • Perform general administrative work (e.g., format correspondence; schedule meetings, coordinate logistics, and generate information for courses)
  • Correspond with dealers, museums, and scholars to further project research
  • Work effectively with Museum staff members and academic scholars
  • Respond to internal and outside queries as needed
  • Prepare materials for print and digital publication and support project-based research as requested

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

  • An in-depth knowledge of old master paintings (preferably 17th-century Flemish)
  • Confident reading knowledge of Dutch and German
  • Advanced art history degree (M.A. required; Ph.D. preferred
  • Strong research skills and experience
  • Excellent organizational and writing skills and ability to multitask
  • Well-honed interpersonal skills, superb written communication, and administrative skills
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to meet scheduled deadlines
  • Willingness to work independently or collaboratively as needed
  • Knowledge of TMS, PowerPoint, and Excel databases is very helpful
  • Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive information
